Elizabeth Holmes, founder of Theranos, surrendered for an 11-year prison sentence. Her fraud case was long and famous in Silicon Valley. At the age of 39, she entered a minimum-security federal women's prison camp in Bryan, Texas. Holmes was indicted on fraud charges in 2018 and had been out on bail. In November 2022, she was convicted of defrauding investors and received an 11-year and three-month prison sentence.

Theranos had previously promised blood tests that were innovative and accurate. However, the claims were false. Customers had been misled. Theranos had once been valued at $9 billion. The company shut down in 2018.
