Plymouth inflict more pain on struggling Wednesday

Plymouth Argyle

The forceful free-kick executed by Mustapha Bundu marked his inaugural goal since his transfer to our team on the deadline day in September, coming from Anderlecht.

In his debut start for Plymouth Argyle, Mustapha Bundu scored a goal as they easily defeated Sheffield Wednesday, adding to the woes of the struggling team at the bottom of the Championship.

At the beginning of the match, Morgan Whittaker hit the post for Argyle, but for most of the first half, Wednesday was in control. However, Sierra Leone's Bundu quickly changed the game with a powerful free-kick that struck the underside of the crossbar and flew into the top corner.

Pol Valentin gave Argyle their second goal a little later after losing the ball to Whittaker. Argyle's dangerous player quickly ran through and kicked a left-footed shot around Cameron Dawson.

Ryan Hardie sealed the victory by scoring with his right foot towards the end of the second half, following a successful move by Finn Azaz who had managed to take the ball away from George Byers and set up the Scottish striker for the goal.

Argyle's triumph, which marks their first victory in five games, elevates them to the 18th spot in the Championship table. Meanwhile, Wednesday's inability to secure a win keeps them at the bottom with only three points earned from their initial 13 matches.

Danny Rohl, the recently appointed manager of the Owls, has yet to witness his team score a goal since he started leading them. Unfortunately, they suffered yet another loss, making it their fifth defeat in their past six matches.

Whittaker made an attempt in the seventh minute which hit the post, following impressive teamwork from Bundu and Azaz.

Shortly after, Josh Windass and John Buckley attempted to score but had their shots stopped as Rohl's team looked strong and determined, keeping control of the ball for most of the first half.

During Wednesday's game, Anthony Musaba was a standout player in terms of their attacking strategy in the first half. They delivered a clever ball that led to Lee Gregory's attempt from inside the box after 31 minutes. Unfortunately, Gregory's effort went over the bar. As Argyle was hoping to take a break and regroup during halftime, the game dramatically shifted in the last few minutes before the break.

Dominic Iorfa was fortunate to avoid getting sent off for taking down Whittaker, who was about to score. Nevertheless, Bundu made sure that Argyle had a reason to cheer when he successfully converted the free-kick that followed. Then, without any hesitation, Whittaker managed to score their second goal just four minutes after the first one.

As Wednesday tried to catch up, the game became more open and Argyle started to dominate. They had a good chance to score eight minutes into the second half, but Bambo Diaby stopped Azaz's shot from crossing the line. Then, Whittaker almost scored from a 20-yard distance after the resulting corner, but the ball went just wide.

Windass had a few opportunities to score for the Owls, but they were unsuccessful. The home team's substitute players, Luke Cundle and Azaz, came close to scoring before the crowd cheered for Bundu as he left the field with 20 minutes remaining.

When Hardie, who replaced Bundu, scored the third goal, 1,428 fans who were supporting the opposite team started to leave. This made it clear that Wednesday is five points behind Queens Park Rangers, who are second from the bottom, and they are 11 points away from safety.
