James Maddison on Neal Maupay mimicking his darts celebration - 'He hasn't scored enough goals of his own' - Eurosport

James Maddison and Neal Maupay had a little spat after Maupay imitated Maddison's dart-themed celebration when he scored the first goal for Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In the 13th minute, Thomas Frank's team scored the first goal, which was rightfully deserved due to some poor play by Spurs in the center of the field.

Maupay took the ball from the other team and initiated an offensive move, eventually scoring by following up on Toney's powerful shot that had been saved by Vicario.

When questioned about his exchange with Maupay during the first half, Maddison responded to TNT Sports by saying that he simply informed him that he likely hasn't scored sufficient goals on his own in recent years to come up with his own celebration, and therefore had to copy his.

"We had a brief tale that had a positive outcome."

Maupay posted a message on Instagram following the game, expressing disappointment that they were unable to secure the victory.

"I have achieved more career goals and faced fewer relegations compared to James Maddison. Let's get back to the grind, Bees, this coming Monday."

Spurs were not doing well in the match and were losing at halftime after Maupay made a goal. However, they started the second half with great energy and managed to score three goals in just seven minutes thanks to Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Richarlison.

Toney added excitement to the game when he scored a goal in the 67th minute, making the score 3-2. However, the home team managed to hold on and secure three important points. Maddison also played his first league game since early November due to an injury to his ankle.

Maddison expressed her joy upon returning to the pitch, saying "It was delightful to be back." She also reflected on how difficult it can be to be sidelined by an injury and unable to pursue your passion. However, being back on the field served as a great reminder of her love for football.

The initial part of the game had several interruptions, which seemed to work in Brentford's favor. They took advantage of the frequent stoppages and set pieces. However, in the latter half of the game, we dominated the field and proved to be too strong for Brentford.

We effectively maintained possession of the ball, generated numerous opportunities, successfully converted some goals and faced some challenges during our match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Despite the significant amount of scoring that tends to take place at this venue, we were fortunate enough to secure three points and I am content with our performance.

Tottenham's victory has elevated them to fourth position, with only a three-point deficit to Manchester City and Arsenal who rank second and third respectively. Maddison asserts that there are no limitations to what the north London team is capable of achieving in the current season.

"We shouldn't limit ourselves, instead let's focus on taking each game as it comes. We still have around 16 or 17 games remaining," he added.

We have the potential to embark on a significant streak. Imposing restrictions could hinder the possibility of exceptional outcomes. Absence of faith in extraordinary outcomes could result in the lack of any progress.

If after completing 38 games, you can consider yourself and your team as complete, then only you can determine where you stand at the end.
