Customers horrified as café renames traditional snack 'Ploughman's' to 'Ploughperson's'

A café located in the town centre of Huddersfield has decided to call its Ploughman's Lunch, Ploughperson's. This has caused disappointment among a few of its patrons.

The Espresso Corner situated on Kirkgate boasts being a comfortable, small, privately-owned café and presents a delectable selection of food.

The cyclist-oriented café, which accommodates vegetarians, has been included in the Yorkshire 2023 guide for coffee destinations. It has gained a devoted fanbase since it first opened its doors, receiving a high rating of 4.5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor.

Nonetheless, it appears that certain patrons are underwhelmed by the selection of food items provided by the restaurant, particularly when it comes to the Ploughperson's lunch, which includes bread, cheese, and either fresh or pickled onions, along with a subtle variation consisting of smoked cheddar and pear chutney.

A man named Melvyn Stancliffe, who is 57 years old and resides in Marsh, went to a café and ordered a coffee. As he perused the menu, he was taken aback when he stumbled across a sandwich named Ploughperson's. He spoke to the waitress to confirm what he saw.

A cafe located in the center of Huddersfield has recently started calling their Ploughman's Lunch as Ploughperson's Lunch. However, this change in labeling has not been well-received by a few of their regular customers.

The Espresso Corner can be found on Kirkgate in Huddersfield.

I didn't realize I was causing an argument, but the person I was speaking with respectfully chose not to continue the conversation. Another individual was unhappy with the way I was speaking, claiming it was too forceful, and asked me to leave. So, I promptly departed.

According to Jason Isherwood, this situation is an example of excessive political correctness. He believes it is absurd and he personally would not consume the product after learning about it. He even refuses to mention the specific phrase associated with the product.

Tony Singh, the proprietor of Caffe Venecia located on Market Street, expressed his opinion stating: 'In my view, if something is not problematic, there is no need to make changes to it.'

These types of alterations have the potential to cause a great deal of perplexity for patrons as you proceed in that direction.

He made a humorous remark saying, 'Perhaps a Fisherman's Friend can be referred to as a Fisherperson's Friend.'

Stephen Knight, who resides in the town center of Huddersfield, expressed his approval of the idea, saying, "I'm all for it because I believe in equal rights for everyone. Women have been involved in farming for ages, so why not allow them to take part in this?"

Barry Sheerman, an MP from Huddersfield, previously requested that Kaffir Road in Edgerton be given a new name due to allegations of racism. Recently, Espresso Corner opted to change the name of one of their dishes, and Sheerman found this amusing.

He expressed that a person who operates a café has the freedom to name their food menu as they please, and it does not concern him in any way.

BBC's Europe Editor Katya Adler was heavily criticized in November 2020 for using the term 'fisherpeople' instead of 'fishermen'.

The BBC's guidelines dictate that job positions that are not specifically intended only for men should exclude the use of the term "men."

The Espresso Corner has been asked for a statement and they have two locations in the center of town.
