Emma Raducanu progressed to the third stage of the Indian Wells tournament as her adversary Dayana Yastremska had to discontinue the match due to injury after only four games.

Raducanu had an impressive beginning and was leading by four points in the initial set when the Ukrainian 30th seeded player seemed to experience a discomfort in her abdominal region.

Without hesitation, she summoned the physical therapist; however, she was unable to continue and gave the victory to the Briton.

It's possible that Raducanu would have won even if the match had gone on for the full duration because she played impressively during the time it did last.

In the beginning of the match, she managed to take Yastremska's serve by flawlessly executing a drop shot. In addition, she displayed determination by preventing Yastremska from breaking her own serve in the first game.

Another opportunity arose thanks to a powerful backhand shot, followed by an easy service hold which placed her firmly in command.

During the match where Raducanu won without giving any points to Yastremska, Yastremska got injured. This led to her retirement for the second time in two games against the previous US Open winner.

It seems that Raducanu is going to face Aryna Sabalenka, who is the second seed and also the Australian Open champion, in the third round. This match will likely determine how far along Raducanu has come in her recovery from a difficult injury-filled 2023.
