Emma Raducanu proceeded to the third round of Indian Wells as her rival Dayana Yastremska was forced to withdraw due to an injury after playing just four games.

Raducanu began the match very well and was ahead 4-0 in the first set when her opponent, the Ukrainian 30th seed, seemed to hurt her abdomen.

Straight away, she requested the physio's assistance, however, was unable to continue and had to forfeit the victory to the British player.

It's possible that Raducanu would have won even if the match continued as she played exceptionally well in the game that took place.

In the beginning of the game, she managed to break Yastremska's serve by executing an exquisite drop shot. Later on, she demonstrated a strong determination by preventing Yastremska from breaking her own service game.

She got the upper hand thanks to a powerful backhand stroke and then managed to hold serve without any difficulty, giving her a bit of a breather.

During the game in which Raducanu won without conceding any points, Yastremska got injured. This resulted in her having to quit the game for the second time in two encounters with the former US Open champion.

It appears that Raducanu is on her way to facing off against Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed and Australian Open champion, in the third round. This match will provide a true gauge of how Raducanu is progressing in her recovery from the injuries that hindered her in 2023.
