Make every day Earth Day or face destruction, says nature writer

Earth Day

On Earth Day, a writer passionate about nature and preservation emphasized the significance of "dedicating oneself to spending time immersed in nature and cultivating a love for it".

Simon Barnes has restored around nine acres (or roughly 3.5 hectares) of his property in Heckingham, Norfolk, through rewilding efforts. According to him, he has already observed how the wildlife in the region has flourished because of it.

Every year on April 22, people all around the world celebrate Earth Day as a reminder that safeguarding our planet is crucial. The event is intended to emphasize the significance of environmental preservation.

According to Mr Barnes, it's important to treat every day like it's Earth Day, because if we don't, our planet is in danger of being destroyed.

The ex-sportscaster mentioned that his interest in plants began when he traveled to Orford Ness, a classified military evaluation location throughout the Cold War. He referred to it as "an incredible spot where military and nature meet."

He gazed upon the shell of a nuclear explosive and pondered the devastation it inflicted upon Hiroshima. He confessed that his mind was in utter disarray.

"He said that he was seated on the small stones, gazing towards the ocean in an attempt to comprehend."

As I looked around, I spotted some vegetation sprouting from the pebbles. I couldn't help but wonder how any plant could survive in such harsh conditions with salty air and no access to water. Nevertheless, they were thriving there in the shingle.

I desired to label them courageous, but that description is inaccurate. It's more about how existence persists and flourishes wherever it can.

I was informed of that tale by the vegetation, and since then, flora has held great significance for me. They are not just a mere part of the environment or a decorative element of nature. They are the core foundation and the beginning of it all.

According to Mr. Barnes, by rewilding his land, he has enabled it to become filled with various types of creatures that thrive in the natural, damp environment.

He has especially observed it with his beds made of reeds.

The younger members of the ecosystem are starting to emerge. It appears that the previously mostly grassy environment is transforming into a habitat for reeds. As a result, a diverse range of species will be attracted to the area.

When expressing his enthusiasm for Earth Day, he stated that we must treat every single day as though it were Earth Day, otherwise we will inevitably bring about our own ruin.

Take care of your own property and allow it to become somewhat untamed, creating a welcoming environment for an array of wildlife.

He emphasized the significance of allocating additional time in natural surroundings.

According to him, you don't need to be an expert like Attenborough to understand this. As you acquire more knowledge, you will have a better experience.

Nature itself is the ultimate public relations representative for the environment.
