After being away for five years, Formula 1 is coming back to China, and this time the excitement goes down at the Shanghai International Circuit. This is the fifth race of the 2024 season, with more to follow in the coming weeks. What makes this weekend more exciting is that it’s the debut of the six sprint weekends.
Max Verstappen managed to secure a win in the recent race held in Japan, easily clinching yet another victory and coming in first place for Red Bull's third one-two finish of the year. Sergio Perez, Verstappen's teammate, was once again the runner-up in the race.
Carlos Sainz secured a spot on the podium for the third time this season after his triumph in Australia. On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes had a disappointing weekend. Recently, Fernando Alonso put an end to the rumors surrounding him replacing Hamilton at Silver Arrows by signing a new contract with Aston Martin.
F1 has chosen China to be one of the six places to hold a sprint weekend. After canceling several events due to Covid, the country is finally back on the calendar after a five-year break. In 2019, Hamilton emerged victorious at the Chinese Grand Prix and achieved a total of six wins in Shanghai.

In Q1, Lewis Hamilton was eliminated, causing disappointment for Toto Wolff as the esteemed seven-time world champion will be commencing the Chinese Grand Prix in 18th position.
