Canelo Alvarez, who is the champion of the super middleweight division without challenge, defended his four title belts by winning against Jaime Munguia on Saturday evening at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas using a unanimous decision.

Alvarez is a skilled boxer with an impressive record of 61 wins, 2 losses, and 39 knockouts. He is 33 years old and has an excellent track record of winning matches during the Cinco De Mayo weekend, with a record of 10 wins and only 1 loss. The only defeat he has suffered was against Dmitry Bivol on May 7, 2022, when he challenged for the WBA light heavyweight title. Despite this loss, he has successfully defended his titles in the WBC, WBO, IBF, and WBA super middleweight categories four times. As a result, he has set a new record for the most successful undisputed title defenses in the era of four-belt championships.

Munguia, aged 27, who has a record of 43 wins and one loss with 34 KOs, did not stand a chance against Alvarez. Although Munguia gave a good fight at the beginning, Alvarez proved to be superior in the end. This is the first time that Munguia has lost a fight in his professional career. Prior to this fight, Munguia had won eight of his previous 10 bouts by ending them early, including a ninth-round TKO victory over Ryder in January.

It was the first instance where two boxers who were born in Mexico went head to head for a title that was undisputed. Moreover, it was also the maiden time that two fighters hailing from Mexico competed for the championship of super middleweight. The world has not yet witnessed a title fight above the weight category of 160 pounds sporting Mexican-born fighters.
