Bayern join Liverpool in chasing Xabi Alonso with Tuchel to leave in summer

Xabi Alonso

Bayern Munich aims to compete with Liverpool in the race to hire Xabi Alonso as their manager. This comes after the Bundesliga champions revealed their decision to part ways with Thomas Tuchel by the season's end due to a run of poor performances.

The club is going to talk about Alonso and his impact on Bayer Leverkusen, sparking interest from Liverpool. With Klopp stepping down, there is an opening and Alonso may be a candidate for the position. Although there is no release clause in his contract, he can leave if he wants to take on a new challenge. Alonso used to play for Liverpool and Bayern before retiring in Germany in 2017.

Tuchel was hired by Bayern in March of last year and signed on until 2025. However, lately he's been feeling the heat as the team is lagging behind the Bundesliga leaders, Leverkusen, by eight points. Additionally, during their first leg in Rome for their Champions League last-16 tie, they fell behind Lazio 1-0.

Two weeks ago, Bayern experienced a 3-0 defeat against Leverkusen which kick-started a run of three losses. This included a 3-2 defeat against Bochum last Sunday, with the game against Lazio occurring in between. Following the Bochum game, there was a heated argument between Joshua Kimmich and Tuchel's assistant, Zsolt Löw, which required them to be physically separated.

In free English, the blog section could be rewritten as: After Julian Nagelsmann, Tuchel became the new leader of Bayern, and on a tense final day of the last season, the team won their 11th Bundesliga title. The major acquisition of the summer was Harry Kane, who has managed to score 25 goals in the league, but unfortunately, the team has not performed as well as hoped.

Marc Kosicke, who represents Klopp, rejected the idea that his client would be enticed by the open position at Bayern. He informed Sky Sports Germany that Klopp had decided to follow through with his plan to take a year-long break.

Bayern announced that Tuchel will be leaving his position in the summer following discussions with chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen. Tuchel confirmed that they have come to an agreement to end their working relationship at the end of the current season. He also stated that he will continue to work hard with his coaching staff to achieve the best possible results until his departure.

Dreesen expressed that after a productive and transparent conversation, it was decided that they will part ways in the upcoming summer season by way of mutual agreement. The aim is to explore a fresh direction in football with a new head coach earmarked for the 2024-2025 season. In the meantime, everyone involved with the club is encouraged to strive for excellence in both the Champions League and Bundesliga.

I also make it clear that the team is responsible for their performance. Specifically in the Champions League, we lost 1-0 against Lazio in the first leg, but we have faith that we will make it to the quarter-finals and play at a packed Allianz Arena with our supporters cheering us on. The second leg will take place on March 5th.
