New Spanish COVID Vaccine Recommended for Use by European Medicines Agency

On Thursday, the European Medicines Agency suggested that a Spanish-produced COVID-19 vaccine should be approved by the EU as an additional dose for adults.

The governing authority decided that the Bimervax immunization, created by HIPRA, a company from Spain, serves as a dependable and efficient reinforcement for those who are 16 years of age or older and have received an mRNA Coronavirus vaccine.

The principal investigation into Bimervax additional doses discovered that the Spanish immunization created larger quantities of antibodies against the beta and omicron strains of COVID-19 compared to the initial Pfizer/BioNtech immunization.

The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, expressed his appreciation for Hipra and the various government institutions involved in creating the vaccine. He stated that it was a memorable day.

Diana Morant, the Science and Innovation Minister, was very happy that Spain has been granted approval by the EMA, which makes it one of only seven countries to receive the honor.

However, the vaccine, created through the manipulation of protein, has faced numerous setbacks.

During the summer of 2021, Morant stated that the COVID-19 vaccine from Spain was expected to be available for the public by the beginning of 2022. Later on, in July 2022, Morant reported that the EMA was close to granting approval for the vaccine, which would happen "in the following days."

Back in October, the higher-ups of the company declared that the vaccine, believed to enhance safety, was set to receive approval in the month of November.

Morant stated earlier this year that the reason for the postponement was related to the authorization procedure of the EMA.

According to Europress, she expressed that with the abundance of vaccines available now, the circumstances have changed. She acknowledged that the present times have their own unique challenges and it's important to accept and comply with them.

HIPRA has dedicated itself to the field of animal healthcare since its establishment, releasing a total of 22 vaccines tailored for animals within the past ten years.
