Sandro Tonali may have to stay away from football for a significant period due to his confession of placing bets on AC Milan games while he was playing for the team in Italy. Sky in Italy reported this development.

During a hearing at the Italian Federation in Turin, the midfielder from Newcastle confessed on Tuesday to placing bets on Milan's victory in matches.

Newcastle is reportedly taken aback and caught off guard by the recent disclosures, but they have chosen to remain silent on the matter at the moment.

Tonali, a 23-year-old footballer, was mentioned in an investigation regarding football betting in Italy last week. As a result, he was not included in the senior men's squad for their recent loss against England.

According to Sky Sports News, he acknowledged during his hearing on Tuesday that he had placed bets on games, whether he was playing or not, with the hope of Milan winning.

As per the regulations stated in Code 26 of FIFA, players who engage in such behavior may be subjected to a prohibition from participating in global football for a maximum duration of three years.

It is probable that Tonali will receive a reduced but still considerable punishment for cooperating with the inquiry and confessing to his wrongdoing.

Juventus' Fagioli Suspended 7 Months For Betting Violation

Earlier this week, Nicolo Fagioli, a midfielder for Juventus, was given a penalty of seven months for his involvement in a football betting scandal. He was the primary player under investigation. Fagioli reported his own behavior but Tonali did not.

The FIGC (Italian Football Federation) announced that Fagioli has received a fine of 12,500 euros (£10,848) and a suspended one-year ban, with five months suspended. Additionally, he has pledged to undergo a treatment program for a minimum of six months to address his gambling addiction.

The organization in charge declared on its webpage that the individual who is twenty-two years of age broke the regulation "which forbids placing bets on football occurrences arranged by FIGC, UEFA, and FIFA."

It is anticipated that Tonali, who was purchased by Newcastle for £55 million from Milan during the summer, will return to Newcastle on Wednesday.

Tonali's representative conceded on Tuesday that the athlete is grappling with a gambling addiction, which he described as the most significant obstacle of his professional life.

On Saturday, Newcastle will play against Crystal Palace in their home stadium.
