Ruben Amorim: West Ham exploring Sporting Lisbon boss as option with David Moyes' future uncertain

West Ham is being thorough in their search for potential new managers, and they are considering several options. The list includes the current head coach of Sporting Lisbon, Ruben Amorim, as well as former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui. This is all in preparation for the possibility that David Moyes may depart from the club after the season concludes.

On Monday, news came out that West Ham communicated with Amorim, who is also a contender for the Liverpool manager position. However, West Ham has chosen not to address these reports.

The Irons are currently investigating Amorim and Lopetegui, as Moyes' current contract will end this summer. Moyes hasn't announced his decision on his future publicly yet.

In February, Moyes mentioned that he was presented with a fresh offer, although it should not be a shock that West Ham is conducting proper research as part of their future preparations.

The football club's desire for European football for the fourth season in a row at the London Stadium took a hit from their crushing 5-2 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The position of West Ham in the league table is eighth with only four games remaining. They are scheduled to play against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City in their upcoming matches.

In the previous season, Moyes managed to lead the team to victory in the Europa Conference League, which was their first European title in over 50 years. However, in 2024, West Ham has only won four out of the 21 games played so far.

If Moyes' second tenure as West Ham's manager is terminated in the upcoming summer, there's a fair chance that the technical director, Tim Steidten, would have more influence at the club.

When Moyes returned to his coaching position in December 2019, it was on the condition that he would have a greater impact on the recruitment process, which was different from his previous stint.

When Steidten was hired in July 2023, West Ham announced that he would take charge of the club's player recruitment strategy and scouting department. Steidten had previously worked at Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen.

It's quite an audacious move for Amorim since he's being considered as a replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and has also been rumored to be a candidate for the Bayern Munich position. Despite his young age of 39, he seems to be a highly sought-after coach.

Amorim is well on his way to securing the Portuguese league's victory for his team, Sporting, this season. Currently, his team is leading by 10 points, comfortably surpassing Benfica at the top of the rankings. Sporting has also successfully secured their spot in the Portuguese Cup final.

West Ham is currently conducting a thorough investigation on Lopetegui as a potential manager.

The person who is 57 years old and has led the Spanish, Real Madrid, and Sevilla football teams has not been employed since they left Wolves. This happened only a few days before the commencement of the Premier League season in August.

So, if someone is interested, they won't have to bargain with another team to have him on their own team, which is not the case for Amorim who is already under a contract.
