Monkey Man is Dev Patel's long fought-for answer to John Wick

Monkey Man

This is an awesome time for fans who admire Dev Patel and those who have ever expressed their desire for him to "step on them" as his directorial debut film, Monkey Man, fulfills both desires.

In the past few years, this individual has not been very active in the entertainment industry except for appearing briefly in a couple of short films, including The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar by Wes Anderson, which has won an Oscar. However, we have finally discovered what they have been working on: an epic revenge story comparable to John Wick, featuring tons of physical combat involving kicks, punches, and stabbing with broken glass pieces near the eye. They have collaborated with Jordan Peele on this project.

We have compiled all the information that we have about the creature known as Monkey Man.

What's Monkey Man?

The story of the rich versus the poor is an age-old tale that has been told many times.

Monkey Man is a movie in which Patel, the main actor and director, portrays an anonymous man who sets out on a mission of vengeance against a corrupt group of leaders. These leaders caused his mother's death and continue to exploit the lower class. The protagonist spent years fighting in an underground club for meager earnings while wearing a monkey mask. He now channels his anger into cutting out the corrupt elements from within. His character is inspired by Hanuman, the Hindu deity renowned for bravery, fortitude, and loyalty. Expect thrilling action scenes throughout the film.

Basically, the movie involves a character similar to John Wick, but he's in Mumbai and seeking revenge for his mother rather than a pet. Take a look at the recently released video clip, which depicts an intense fight in a kitchen. Although the director, Patel, acknowledges that John Wick served as partial inspiration for the film (due to the man in a suit), he also drew from a range of other action genres, stating "This movie was created from my immense passion for action cinema - everything from Bruce Lee to Sammo Hong to Jet Lee to Jackie Chan to Korean cinema that completely transformed my life. Also, I took inspiration from Bollywood."

Before its release, the movie gave us a long 3-minute trailer as the first real proof that this film, which they've been working on since 2018, is finally going to be available soon! If you're not excited from watching the many perfectly choreographed fight scenes or the "Beware Of The Boys" by MC and Jay Z song, then maybe you've been hit on the head one too many times while wearing a monkey mask.

Who Stars In Monkey Man?

Dev Patel shines in the lead role of Monkey Man. He is the standout star of the film.

In this blog post, we learn about Patel's role as the main character in a movie where he goes on a quest for revenge in the dangerous areas of Mumbai. The fight scenes shown in the trailer were not just for entertainment, as Patel suffered real injuries such as a broken foot, torn shoulder, and broken hand, leading to a screw being placed in his hand. Due to this injury, the choreography had to be altered to accommodate for one-handed moves, which was a challenging process. However, Patel persevered with a fierce determination to make the role come to life.

He accomplished his directorial debut with the movie and seems to have gone through a rough road, as revealed in his talk after the premiere. He shared with the audience, "I invested my all in this project. I filmed it in India's largest slum, but the Covid pandemic struck, and it hit our film hard. We had to face every imaginable problem. But, eventually, Jordan Peele joined in the process, and he played a crucial role in saving the day. He picked up the pieces, wiped off the dust, and placed it on the mantelpiece."

The presence of Jordan Peele in the picture is worth noting. His company, Monkeypaw, obtained the rights to the movie and prevented it from being unceremoniously dumped on Netflix without a theatrical release. Peele was firm in his belief that this film deserves to be viewed in a vast cinema with a massive audience. As a result, Universal is now distributing the film.

Sharlto Copley from the movie Chappie and Sobhita Dhulipala from India will also be featured in the cast with Patel.

Monkey Man Release Date?

The movie made its global debut at the SXSW event in Austin during March to exceptional feedback and applause from the audience. Patel was overwhelmed and cried on stage due to the standing ovation. Feeling thrilled about the upcoming release, we don't have to wait for long since Monkey Man will be screened in cinemas starting from 5 April.
