May the 4th be with you- an homage to the Spurs Star Wars Nights

May the 4th be with you

Once upon a time, in a far-off galaxy, the San Antonio Spurs team made a choice to include a Star Wars-themed night in their yearly schedule of activities and celebrations.

A senior member of the Jedi Order and his offspring started participating in these matches as it brought together their preferred squad and beloved sci-fi epic franchise.

When I relocated to San Antonio in 2014 (what a coincidence!), I recall the Spurs organizing a Star Wars Night during the 2014-15 season. To my dismay, I don't remember attending it. I was devastated about it. However, I didn't realize it wouldn't be their final time hosting such an occasion.

I'm lucky to have had some of my articles published on PtR after beginning to write for them a few years back. However, I don't have any recollection of the time preceding that.

Let's take a stroll down memory lane and revisit some of the Star Wars Nights we've had (that I can recall):

Last year, the Spurs revamped their logo and used a backdrop that was inspired by the plans of the Death Star. It is, without a doubt, my preferred shirt out of the lot.

Furthermore, let's discuss the introduction.

I am quite certain that there was no physical basketball game happening in the year 2020, as a result, there couldn't have been any occasion known as Star Wars Night.

2021 saw the much-anticipated comeback of the Daddy-Daughter Date Night. The shirt they got as a souvenir had a classic Star Wars print of C3PO and R2D2, but with the addition of a Spurs Coyote Jedi. However, what really stuck with me was the moment we approached the entrance gate. Elizabeth was beyond thrilled. It had been over a year since we last experienced a game, and being there again made us feel like everything was back to normal. Although the photo is a tad blurry, you can clearly see the sheer joy on Elizabeth's face. As for me, my grin was doubly as enormous.

The AT&T Center greeted the fans with an amazing team. Their costumes were incredible (unlike my makeshift Chewbacca outfit combining Halloween and sleepwear).

Let's take a peek at the commencement of the game.

The San Antonio Spurs showcased Baby Yoda as part of their "The Force Is Strong With This One" concept two years ago.

I can't remember if there was a Star Wars Night this season. Please leave a comment below if I'm wrong.

I have three big interests: the San Antonio Spurs, Star Wars, and the Foo Fighters. Almost all my clothes have one of these icons on them because I love them so much.

It's fortunate that my daughter has shown a strong interest in three things. We frequently watch the Spurs play basketball and even attend live games. Additionally, we've watched the Star Wars movies as a duo, but with age-appropriate restrictions. During last summer, I asked Elizabeth how she wanted to celebrate her 10th birthday. She opted out of having a traditional birthday party and instead suggested we travel to Milwaukee to see the Foo Fighters. She must truly enjoy their music.

I frequently inform others that I am excelling at being a father, however, the reality is that my child is excelling at being a kid.

Make sure to include your recollections and pictures in the comment section.

If you happen to be in the vicinity of San Antonio today, it may pique your interest to know that my local community group is organizing a LawnFest that will feature some truly amazing musicians from the area. You'll get to watch live performances by Nicky Diamonds, YOSA, Kitten Mitten, and FEA - all of whom are incredibly talented - and best of all, you can enjoy the show while strolling through a picturesque mid-century modern neighborhood that's truly lovely to behold. This event is suitable for families, and incurs no costs.
