Where to watch Tottenham vs Man City

Manchester City’s bid to chop Arsenal’s Premier League lead to two points was scuppered as Harry Kane’s record-breaking goal earned Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 win over the champions.

Kane’s 15th-minute effort punished some sloppy City defending and made him the north London club’s all-time top goalscorer with 267, taking him past former great Jimmy Greaves whose record had stood since 1970. It was a strike even fans of Tottenham’s arch-rivals Arsenal would have celebrated down the road as it helped Mikel Arteta’s side stay five points clear despite Saturday’s shock loss at Everton.

Tottenham had led by two goals at halftime at City a few weeks ago only to capitulate and lose 4-2 but this time they held firm despite a late red card for Cristian Romero to boost their own hopes of finishing in the top four. With Erling Haaland relatively quiet the closest City came to scoring was a Riyad Mahrez effort that smashed against the underside of the crossbar in first-half stoppage time.

As soon as next month, Harry Kane is likely to join an elite group of players to be top-scorer for their country and a club - including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pele - but there remains some doubt about how many more Tottenham goals he will add to his remarkable total.

His contract is up at the end of next season and Spurs will be reluctant to allow him to enter the final year of his deal, leaving them under pressure to accelerate talks.

This performance, though, is exactly the type which may help to convince Kane that Spurs can compete with the best sides in the country and for major honours.

Reaction from Guardiola

“We started really well, they didn’t cross halfway, or just once and we concede a goal, like happened two weeks ago.

“A well organised team, physical, we can’t expect to create a lot of chances. When we lose balls in transitions it is more difficult.

“It was good, we created chances and it was difficult. Most of the time to come here, we are not able to win the game - it is not easy to play them and these type of games we have to try and do the situation. The intention is there.”

Kyle Walker’s post-match thoughts...

”It’s disappointing obviously. We’ve come to first of all pick up three points, but also to get a result at this stadium which we haven’t got.

“We move on now. We’ve got to work hard this week, move on to the next game and try and go on a run that we know we can do.”

Reaction from Kane

“It’s a day I’ll never forget. It’s hard to put into words; just a magical moment. I was desperate to do it with a win as well, and in front of the home fans.

“There’s been so much talk about it in the last two weeks and I wanted to get it done as soon as possible. To do it here against one of the best teams in the world, it’s a special feeling.

“When I started playing regularly, eight or nine years ago, it wasn’t even in my imagination to score 200 Premier League goals. To be there now… it’s exciting and I’ve got plenty more years left, so hopefully there’s a few more to come.”

FT: Tottenham 1-0 Man City

Harry Kane’s goal proves to be the winner!

Man City really hate this stadium. They’ve slipped up again, unable to close the gap to Arsenal.

Spurs do close the gap to Newcastle, they’re just a point off the top four now.

90+6 mins: That will be that. Walker loses his head and just kicks Sessegnon after losing the ball. Yellow card and free-kick.

Comes after Guardiola erupted at the referee as Grealish was penalised. Not going to happen for City.

90+3 mins: City want a penalty. Again. Referee not interested. Again.

Ball comes in, Rodri challenging and Lloris comes for it. He clatters into Rodri as he palms it away, not great goalkeeping but probably will get away with it.

And he does. Check is complete.
