West Brom vs Rotherham

The Millers encounter further disappointment on their travels...

Rotherham United faced more difficulties on their journey through Sky Bet Championship during their game against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns. A goal that was perceived as controversial was scored just before the end of the first half, which put an end to Rotherham United's hopes of achieving a positive outcome. West Bromwich Albion are now set to compete in the playoffs.

The Millers, who are going to compete in the third division of England's football league next season, were losing by one goal before the break. The goal was scored by Brandon Thomas-Asante. After that, Lee Peltier was unfairly accused of handball even though the ball hit his head outside of the penalty box. John Swift, a former loanee, added insult to injury by scoring another goal for the Baggies just before halftime.

Throughout the uneventful second half, the team playing on their home turf maintained their dominance over the game and showed no signs of letting go, despite Rotherham's attempts to catch up. Carlos Corberan's team ultimately won the match with ease.

After losing at home to Plymouth Argyle in their previous game, Millers Head Coach Leam Richardson decided to make just one adjustment to his team's starting line-up for their journey to the West Midlands.

The Portuguese player Cafu was brought back into the team, which meant that Charlie Wyke had to be content with being a substitute.

The Baggies had control over most of the possession and territory in the beginning of the game. They got the first chance when Darnell Furlong passed the ball into a space and Tom Fellows skillfully found Swift. He could have had a chance to score a goal, but unfortunately, he missed the goal by shooting the ball over the bar.

The two teams had an equal number of opportunities. During the game, Thomas-Asante nearly got the ball from Furlong's pass, but unfortunately, he missed it. Rotherham then got their first opportunity when Sam Nombe passed the ball to Sam Clucas, but he could not score and did not trouble their opponent's goal.

The Millers experienced a brief moment of worry when Cohen Bramall was punished for pulling down Fellows while he was in full motion. As a result, Swift took the free-kick and placed it in a risky area, but Bartley, the captain of the home team, was only able to head it over.

During the half of the game, there was a moment when the Millers had a really good period. This occurred when Ollie Rathbone and Seb Revan worked together, followed by Bramall and Clucas, who also had excellent teamwork. Their effort led to a corner.

Cafu kicked a tricky ball that curved inward, making Alex Palmer save it with his hands before Bramall attempted to shoot but was unsuccessful. After that, Furlong prevented Hakeem Odoffin from scoring by getting in his way near the goal.

The team playing at home successfully withstood a short period where the opposing team, the Millers, played well. However, things returned to usual when Swift took advantage of an opportunity and enabled Thomas-Asante to pass through the Rotherham defense, even though it appeared as if he was in an offside position. Nevertheless, his shot towards the goal missed and went wide.

The Millers did not pay attention to the warning given, resulting in the Baggies scoring in the 23rd minute.

Mikey Johnston passed the ball towards the left side, where Adam Reach managed to outmaneuver his opponent. Afterwards, the winger ran inside the box and carefully found Thomas-Asante, who was making a run towards the goal. In doing so, he managed to remove Johansson from the equation. As soon as Thomas-Asante received the ball, he had an easy finish to put the ball into the unguarded net from a short distance.

The Millers had a couple of opportunities to score. Nombe headed the ball but missed the goal from Odoffin's pass. Cafu kicked the ball too high and it went over the goal post. In the meantime, Johansson blocked Fellows' shot by catching the ball.

However, things took a cruel and definitive turn for the Millers just before half-time when the opposing team controversially scored their second goal, widening the lead.

When Thomas-Asante made a threatening move towards the visitors, it didn't seem like they were in trouble. However, he attempted a risky shot that made them nervous. Peltier acted bravely by positioning his body to block the shot, but the ball hit his head as he had his hands in the air - just outside the box. Unfortunately, the referee's decision to award a penalty to the opposing team shocked everyone.

The Rotherham players strongly disagreed with the referee's decision, but he ignored them. Swift then bravely took the penalty kick and aimfully shot the ball into the middle of the Millers' net.

Emotions reached a tipping point in Rotherham when Rob Kelly, assistant to Richardson, received a caution for his excessive protests from the dugout of the visiting team.

At the half-way point of the game, the score stands at 2-0 in favor of West Bromwich Albion against Rotherham United.

Despite being a player down, the Millers had a few opportunities to score. Rathbone took advantage of a loose ball and made a low shot that was redirected just past the post. Revan also had a chance but sent his shot directly to Palmer, who made an easy save.

It could be argued that the team playing at home were not performing at their best, but they increased their pace of play when Johnston delivered an impressive pass that split the Rotherham defense. This allowed Thomas-Asante to make his way towards the opposing team's goal, but Johansson managed to win the battle of determination in the one-on-one situation and make a fantastic save to stop him from scoring.

Cafu was unable to capitalize on a rare opportunity for Rotherham because he couldn't control the ball in the penalty area. Johansson had to receive extensive medical attention before he was cleared to keep playing.

The team playing at home nearly scored their third goal. The two substitutes, Nathaniel Chalobah and Matt Phillips, worked together and created a clever play. Unfortunately, Thomas-Asanten was very close but missed meeting the cross from Phillips by just inches. If he had met it, he could have easily tapped it into the goal from very close range.

In his most recent participation, Thomas-Asante missed a golden opportunity when he blasted the ball over the bar from a close range. This occurred after Rotherham was unable to properly clear a long throw.

The match concluded on a cheerful tone for Rotherham fans as Academy player Ben Hatton made his debut in an official game for the team. He came in as a substitute during the final minutes of the match.

The game between West Bromwich Albion and Rotherham United ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of West Bromwich Albion. This was a full-time match.

Davies sends West Bromwich Albion soaring over Birmingham City with a 2-1 victory in the derby. It was a well-deserved triumph for the Baggies, who dominated possession and exhibited superior technical abilities. Birmingham took the lead in the first half when Neil Etheridge saved Leko's shot only for Lee Bowyer's squad to score off the rebound. However, Albion was relentless in their pursuit of an equalizer, with Hakeem Odoffin unfortunately putting the ball into the back of his own net before Alex Mowatt delivered a powerful free-kick to seal the victory. With the triumph, the Baggies further cemented their lead at the top of the Championship table, increasing the distance between them and second place.
