Danjuma plan

Antonio Conte has revealed that his intention was to change his formation against AC Milan and introduce Arnaut Danjuma with Tottenham chasing a goal. Going into the Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie trailing 1-0, Spurs needed a response on home soil in order to keep their European ambitions alive.

Unable to test Mike Maignan in the AC Milan goal in the first 45 minutes, it wasn't until midway through the second half when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg forced the Frenchman into his first real save. Having introduced Pedro Porro and Richarlison, Conte has admitted that his idea was to go all attack in a 4-2-4 formation before Cristian Romero's red card scuppered his Danjuma plan.

"Yeah about Arnaut, for sure I am sorry. I am sorry for him because he arrived in the transfer market in January and the club wanted to sign on loan this player," said Conte in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Nottingham Forest game. "For sure he has good characteristics, good quality and maybe he has not specific characteristics to be a No.10. Maybe he is more a second striker or a winger, but for sure I am appreciating a lot his desire, his will in every training [session].

Predicted team

Antonio Conte will need to make changes to get Tottenham's season back on track when Nottingham Forest come to town on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs ' campaign has taken a nosedive in the past week with meek exits from the FA Cup and Champions League at the hands of Sheffield United and AC Milan respectively. Conte's future has been questioned after three games without a goal and with Liverpool chasing hard behind, Tottenham need to get back to winning ways to maintain their spot in the top four.

Conte admitted on Friday that both Emerson Royal and Ivan Perisic are injury doubts ahead of the game, with the Brazilian having missed training that day.

Spurs profit from fixture decision

Antonio Conte and Tottenham find themselves in the same boat as 12 months ago when it comes to securing a top-four finish come the end of May. Now out of both the FA Cup and Champions League after a truly disastrous week for the club, Spurs' sole focus in what remains of the 2022/23 season is on the Premier League.

Free midweeks worked in their favour this time last year as they had sufficient time on the training pitch with Conte to put together an incredible run that saw them pip Arsenal to fourth. Scoring goals for fun and with an attacking trio of Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min running riot, supporters would love for that to be the case in the final 12 league fixtures.

If Tottenham are to have another Champions League campaign to look forward to come September then confidence must be restored as soon as possible. One thing that Spurs do have going in their favour at the moment is a kind run of Premier League fixtures on the horizon.

Morning digest

Antonio Conte has agreed with Richarlison's honest assessment of his own Tottenham form and confirmed that the attacker has apologised for his comments after the club's European elimination.

Following Tottenham's Champions League exit at the hands of AC Milan, the Brazilian pulled no punches in his post-match interview as he opened up on his Spurs career to date and not starting in the Round of 16 second leg tie.

The ex-Everton man claimed that he was told he would start against the Rossoneri if he passed a fitness test the day before, only to then find himself on the bench despite proving his fitness. Speaking to the media for the first time since the incident, Conte was quizzed about the 25-year-old and gave his own verdict on the forward's form since his move to north London.

Match simulated

Spurs will be desperate for three points when they face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday, with the pressure seemingly mounting on Antonio Conte.

2023 has been a tough year for Spurs, with Conte's side failing to find consistency and looking certain to go another season without a trophy. A frustrating performance midweek saw Spurs draw 0-0 with AC Milan in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie, meaning the Lilywhites were eliminated from the competition, losing 1-0 on aggregate.

The draw followed a 1-0 loss to Wolves in the Premier League, and if Spurs were to fail to pick up a point on Saturday, they could potentially drop out of the top four. Spurs and Forest have met twice this season, with Spurs beating the Reds 2-0 in the Premier League and losing 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.
