Comedian Richard Gadd portrays a character inspired by himself in the show. The storyline follows his encounter with a mentally unstable and isolated woman named Martha whom he meets while working at a pub. She eventually becomes a stalker in his life.
After the triumph of the series, inquisitive admirers have attempted to uncover the origins of the program, however, the performers have strongly advised against it.
Fiona Harvey, a lawyer from Scotland who has been referred to as the "true Martha," has been the target of death threats from audiences of Baby Reindeer. She is slated to appear on Piers Morgan's show, Uncensored, where she will "clarify her position after being exposed by supporters."
