Haaland on target as Man City beat Brighton

Man City

Manchester City managed to steer clear of a third straight loss in the Premier League by scoring two goals in the first half, which secured them a victory over Brighton while playing at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola's team was defeated in their last two premier league matches, which were played against Wolves and Arsenal. The team has never had three back-to-back league losses during Pep Guardiola's tenure as the manager.

The previous winners demonstrated their determination from the get-go with Julian Alvarez netting the first goal only seven minutes into the game. Alvarez beautifully evaded Brighton's goalie Jason Steele with a skillful move and assist from Jeremy Doku.

Erling Halaand finally broke his goalless streak of three games by taking advantage of a mistake made by Carlos Baleba in the center of the field. Halaand fired a powerful left-footed shot into the back of the net.

The visitors had a more steady and organized second half where they managed to take advantage of Manuel Akanji's weak clearance inside the penalty area, which led to Ansu Fati scoring.

The purpose of the goal caused tension in the last part of the game as City desperately held on while Brighton tried to even the score. City had to defend with only 10 players during additional time after Akanji received a second yellow card.

Doku was a persistent danger on the left flank, providing the assist for Alvarez's goal and nearly scoring with two impressive, curling shots from long distance.

The forward from Argentina, Alvarez, had the chance to score a second goal with a free-kick that was curled. Unfortunately, Phil Foden didn't have any luck with his shot as it didn't find its way into the top corner of the net.

City have taken the lead in the Premier League standings after achieving a victorious win. Their position may be surpassed depending on the outcome of the Arsenal vs Chelsea match, taking place on the same day.

Haaland Scores Again

It's not really fair to call it a goal drought when he's only gone three matches without scoring, but Haaland set the bar pretty high with his incredible record of 52 goals in 53 games across all competitions last season. So it's still surprising when he doesn't score in just one match.

During the last two matches in the league, the footballer from Norway has only made one attempt at scoring, which is unusual for him. This player is known for scoring a lot of goals and actually broke the record for the most goals scored in a top-flight season with 36 goals last year.

As Haaland made his way towards his fellow players and supporters for a celebratory moment, he had a face filled with happiness and then a sense of release. This happened after he scored an amazing shot that put an end to their recent losing streak.

Haaland received support from Doku and Foden on the sides, with the former showing impressive moves that made the crowd stand up whenever he dashed down the wing.

Despite doubts about playing together, Alvarez has proven himself as a valuable player during Haaland's absence by scoring four goals in eight matches.

Rodri and John Stones have returned to City's side after serving their punishments. Stones has also recovered from his injury. This means that City is almost fully recovered, with only Kevin de Bruyne being the exception as he is still out.

City appeared to be returning to their regular routine for the most part, but Brighton's goal and Akanji's recent red card, causing him to miss the upcoming Manchester derby, transformed what had been a simple victory into a tense ending.

This season, Brighton has allowed more goals than any other team that is not in the relegation zone. They have given up a total of 18 goals and nine of these goals were scored during the first half of games.

The team's manager, Roberto de Zerbi, is likely to feel let down by the way his players allowed the first goal to be scored. Alvarez had no opposition near him when he positioned himself at the edge of the area.

During the first half, the guests had a difficult time as Doku outplayed James Milner. Milner had returned from a muscle injury and was playing against his previous team. Unfortunately, the 37-year-old had a disappointing 45 minutes and was taken out at halftime.

Brighton had two goals scored against them in the initial 20 minutes which brought back memories of Aston Villa single-handedly beating Seagulls 6-1 in the past. However, in the second half, Brighton played in a more disciplined manner making them look like they could pose a threat.

The team believed that they had scored a point when Fati discovered Kaoru Mitoma unmarked in an open area, but the goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega, who was substituted for the rested Ederson, made a good save from the Japanese winger's shot.

Lewis Dunk and Steele did a good job stopping an Alvarez shot from scoring before Brighton quickly moved towards the opposite end and Fati scored a goal.

Despite having chances to tie the game, the visitors' luck took a turn for the worse when Solly March suffered an unfortunate injury towards the end of the match. March had to be taken off the field on a stretcher, and as a result, the team's progress was halted.

Admitting that Brighton has difficulty in preventing opponents from scoring goals is evident, yet they excel in scoring goals as they possess the second most number of goals in the league, next to Newcastle. As a result, their games are surely worth watching.

De Zerbi needs to come up with a strategy to prevent the opposing team from scoring too many goals if he hopes to exceed the sixth-place finish of last season which set a new record.
