Leicester beat Birmingham to go top of table

Leicester City

Leicester gained an advantage with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's goal, which was scored in the first half an hour.

Leicester City ascended to first place in the Championship by achieving a last-minute victory against Birmingham City at the King Power Stadium.

In the 87th minute, Stephy Mavididi scored a goal that led to the Foxes overcoming their opponents' great defense.

Leicester was able to score first with a goal from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. However, just before the first half of the game ended, Jay Stansfield managed to even the score.

Enzo Maresca's team moved ahead of Ipswich and Leeds in the promotion race after both teams suffered losses. However, Birmingham was pushed into the relegation zone as a result of their defeat.

Dewsbury-Hall had a significant impact at the start of the game when he nearly caused Emanuel Aiwu to score a goal against his own team with his cross. However, John Ruddy, the goalkeeper for Blues, successfully prevented the goal from happening.

After Patson Daka passed the ball to him, the midfielder scored his 12th goal of the season by placing the ball in the back of the net.

Almost immediately, the guests came very close to retaliating when Krystian Bielik shot off target from a short distance away. However, Ruddy managed to stop Daka's attempt to score a goal at the opposite end of the pitch.

Stansfield scored his second goal in a week, bringing the game to a tie just before the halftime whistle. He took advantage of a clearance by the Foxes goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, and redirected the ball into the goal.

Only a brief five minutes had passed since the break when Wilfried Ndidi made an almost successful attempt at putting Leicester ahead again. However, their lead was thwarted as the goalkeeper, Ruddy, managed to deflect Ndidi's header from Mavididi's cross.

Ruddy was summoned again soon after, as he dived to prevent Fatawu's shot from scoring. The introduction of Jamie Vardy in the second half did not alleviate the growing anxiety in the Leicester team as he missed a wide header.

Both teams had opportunities to score and win the match, however Mavididi's decisive action came into play. He scored a goal by using his head to put the ball into the net off a cross from Yunus Akgun, who was brought in as a substitute. This goal helped the Foxes reach the top spot in the Championship.

The coach of Leicester, Enzo Maresca, spoke to BBC Radio Leicester and said that his team had many opportunities to score, but they just needed to find the second goal. He acknowledged that sometimes things can be difficult, and the other team can score during a transition, but he felt that his team was in control of the game.

When you're playing and finding it difficult to make a goal, it can feel like you're not going to come out on top. But the team really showed up and performed amazingly, so I truly believe we earned that victory in the end.

During the break, I advised them to remain calm and composed. The latter half of the game showed a remarkable improvement in our performance. Although the squad was already playing admirably, our display in the final 10 minutes was exceptional.

I'm pleased for Stephy; he has the potential to be even more valuable to our team. Our attention is now fully on Tuesday.

In an interview with BBC Radio WM, the temporary manager of Birmingham, Gary Rowett, stated that when you visit cities such as Leicester, you must be prepared to acknowledge that an excellent team will have possession of the ball for most of the game, and there may be instances where things do not go as planned.

We only require a touch more courage and skill in controlling the ball in order to keep it for an extended period. However, this proved to be a challenge for us. Towards the end of the game, we may have felt a slight tiredness, hence the reason for the numerous adjustments. It is paramount for us to ensure that we do not let the game slip away, and that includes not giving up last-minute goals. As these points could prove to be crucial as of May.

As a team, it's important that we support one another during difficult times. We've already demonstrated this through our hard work and dedication to the game. While the outcome of our match against Leicester may have been disappointing, it doesn't define the rest of our season.
