Roma sack José Mourinho with club ninth and keen on Daniele De Rossi

The team known as Roma has parted ways with their manager, José Mourinho, due to their current rank in Serie A which is ninth place. The decision was made after experiencing a 3-1 loss against Milan last Sunday and getting knocked out of the Coppa Italia last Wednesday during their face-off against rival team, Lazio.

AS Roma has announced that José Mourinho and his team of coaches will depart from the club immediately, as stated in the official announcement. The club has promised to provide more information shortly regarding the new coaching staff that will take over.

Roma have initiated discussions with Daniele De Rossi as a potential replacement for Mourinho. De Rossi is a long-time player of the club, having played over 600 games for them between 2001 and 2019. Although De Rossi only had a brief stint as a manager in Serie B with SPAL, which ended last February, he has been involved in coaching with Italy under Roberto Mancini, and has also held age-group roles in the Italian Football Federation.

In the year of 2021, Mourinho became the boss of Roma and guided the organization to their inaugural triumph in 14 years by achieving success in the Europa Conference League in the year 2022. Additionally, he made it to the finale of the past season's Europa League, wherein he lost the game on penalties to Sevilla.

Over the course of their last five games, Roma have only managed to secure a single victory against Cremonese in the Coppa Italia tournament. Unfortunately, they also suffered a loss to Juventus during that same time frame. With Mourinho's departure, the team will face off against Feyenoord in the upcoming Europa League match, after having placed second in their group to Slavia Prague.

Mourinho didn't make the cut in his two complete Serie A seasons with Roma as he finished sixth both times. Being a former coach of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United, he will turn 61 years old later this month. Roma is currently trailing behind Inter by 22 points and Fiorentina by 5, as Mourinho departs from the club.

Dan and Ryan Friedkin, the proprietors of Roma, expressed their gratitude to Mourinho for his dedication and hard work. They also shared that they hold fond memories of his tenure at the club, but they have determined that it is vital to make a change right away for the club's welfare.
