Elon Musk to file ‘thermonuclear lawsuit’ as advertisers desert X

Elon Musk

Elon Musk declared that he plans to take legal action against Media Matters and others by filing a lawsuit of drastic proportions. He made the decision after several large American companies halted their advertising on his social media platform due to worries about anti-Semitic content.

Media Matters, an organization that monitors the media, recently announced that it discovered companies such as IBM, Apple, Oracle, and Comcast's Xfinity were running ads next to content that praises Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, promoting antisemitism.

This caused several notable figures in the technology and media industries to reveal that they were going to pull out their advertisements. This group consisted of Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Disney, among others.

As soon as the court opens on Monday, X Corporation plans to file a serious lawsuit against Media Matters and everyone who participated in this deceitful assault on our company," announced Musk on X, which was previously referred to as Twitter.

On Wednesday, Musk supported a post on X that contained false information about Jewish people spreading animosity towards white people. The user, who mentioned the conspiracy theory of "great replacement", was believed by Musk to be telling "the real truth".

Musk stated that this week, Media Matters for America shared an article that misrepresented the actual situation on X. This was done in an effort to harm freedom of expression and deceive advertisers.

X prioritizes the safeguarding of the public's freedom of expression over everything else, even financial gain. However, to ensure genuine freedom of speech, individuals should also have the liberty to witness or listen to things that may be perceived as offensive by certain groups, as emphasized by X.

He didn't mention the controversy surrounding his tweet, but he has previously refuted claims of being anti-Jewish.

Musk went on to reject the discoveries of Media Matters.

According to Bloomberg's report, Apple was a major advertiser for company X and was shelling out as much as $100 million (£80 million) annually until Musk acquired the company in November 2022.

From that point forward, an inclination of X sponsors to withdraw and a reduction in the quantity of users was noticed - all while Musk presented a remunerated high-end system, asserting its purpose was to aim at bots on the platform.

On Friday, the White House expressed their strong disapproval of Musk's tweet, stating that it was promoting hateful and discriminatory views towards Jewish people and other races. Their statement denounced these abhorrent views.
