The offices of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) located in the city of Ljubljana were the venue for a gathering on 10th January 2024. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the upcoming EUSA-EPF European Universities Powerlifting Championship.

Miha Zvan, Eszter Gulyas, and Aleksandra Andreeva, who are all involved in managing sports for EUSA, got together with representatives from the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) during a work meeting. Emanuel Scheiber, the General Manager, and Tetiana Melnyk, the Secretary General of the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF), were also in attendance.

The EUSA and IPF/EPF representatives had a productive conversation about future collaboration, with a focus on discussing the potential for powerlifting to be included in the EUSA European Universities Championships. This was part of an ongoing discussion between the two organizations over the past few years.

In order to make progress, the EUSA has thoroughly scrutinized and examined their procedures, operations, and event organization needs. This information will be reviewed and factored in by any future organizing committees. After putting together all of the relevant documents and proposals, several candidates were suggested and a few final talks took place about where the inaugural EUC Powerlifting competition should take place.

We are presently talking about how we can make the first EUSA-EPF European Universities Powerlifting Championship in 2025 more exciting. This project is still being deliberated and will require the approval of the EUSA Executive Committee.

Last year, EUSA and EPF came to an agreement to boost their teamwork and collaboration. The main purpose of this partnership is to advance powerlifting projects and events for students, while simultaneously seeking out new opportunities for working together effectively.

Since the partnership was established, the first collaborative endeavor took place in the form of four iterations of the European Universities Powerlifting Cups, which have been executed with great success since 2020.

The European University Championships program may change and presently have 23 sports included. In 2019, kickboxing, beach handball, water polo and orienteering were added to the program. In 2022, Lodz, Poland hosted the last edition, and the next event is to take place from 12-24 July 2024 in Hungary's Debrecen and Miskolc cities.
