Neocrete, a company based in New Zealand, is seeking over US$1.86m in funding through an investment round. The purpose of this funding is to construct a large-scale facility for Neocrete's activator, which is used in pozzolan-based concrete. By utilizing Neocrete's activator, it is possible to eliminate up to 50% of the cement used in concrete. Neocrete's long-term goal is to completely replace the cement content in concrete. According to the Hawke's Bay Today newspaper, concrete made with Neocrete's additive, which is based on pozzolan, provides durability advantages compared to traditional ordinary Portland cement (OPC)-based concrete. This makes Neocrete's product particularly suitable for construction projects in areas exposed to seawater.
