Barnsley FC removed from 2023-24 Emirates FA Cup

Barnsley won't be participating in the 2023-2024 Emirates FA Cup because the Professional Game Board Sub-Committee found out they used a player who couldn't legally play during their First Round Proper Replay match against Horsham on November 14, 2023.

According to the FA, the player couldn't take part in this Replay because he wasn't officially registered and able to play during the original First Round Proper match on Friday 3 November 2023. This goes against FA Cup Rule 103.

Barnsley accepted the accusation and recognized that they had violated the rules. The group responsible for making decisions about the competition decided that Barnsley must be disqualified, and Horsham would be declared the winner and advance to the next round.

Provided that there are no challenges from Barnsley, Horsham is scheduled to have an away game against Sutton United on December 2, 2023 in the Second Round Proper.
