David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, once showrunners for "Game of Thrones," have produced their first series for Netflix. It's based on Cixin Liu's sci-fi trilogy, and the story occurs in five different continents. Scientists join forces to study how choices made in the 1960s now endanger the Earth's existence.

The program debuted with an electrifying premiere show at SXSW, yet the initial installments sparked a polarizing reaction from viewers. Despite lauding the production for its grandiose magnitude, a lot of analysts believed that it was too obscure to provoke genuine sentiment.

Converting a book called after a scientific conundrum into a TV series intended for broad audiences is both a daunting task and a chance for failure. Millions of copies of Cixin Liu's 'Remembrance of Earth's Past' trilogy, which includes the first book called 'The Three-Body Problem,' have been sold globally. Apparently, readers resonate with what the former engineer's hefty books convey about humanity's first encounter with beings from other planets, and it is unlikely that it is due to the underlying scientific principles. This is according to a critique by Ben Travers from IndieWire.

The enormous size of the story, the vast importance of the events, and the relatable personalities are all very powerful elements that can capture people's emotions and are also essential and replicable factors in creating a television show. However, it might be challenging to imagine the casual viewers becoming deeply interested in learning about interstellar travel and complex theories about multiple dimensions. Nonetheless, this is the reality of the situation. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss must have known this and were prepared when they decided to work on "3 Body Problem."

It is still uncertain as to how viewers who watch shows online will react to the series. However, Benioff, Weiss, and Alexander Woo, who is a co-showrunner, have already started developing the second season. In a recent interview with Collider, the team discussed their intentions to adapt the remaining two books from Liu's trilogy into the show.

"We have a solid plan for Season 2 which is much more than just a rough idea," stated Benioff. "As we move further into the future, our view of things may become hazy. However, in the third book, there are numerous incredible moments that we can visualize very clearly. While we may not be entirely certain about the journey our characters will take to get there, we know that they need to arrive at those significant landmarks because those are the moments that inspired us to adapt this book series in the first place."

Benioff clarified that the initial season is based on Liu's debut novel, "The Three-Body Problem," and in case of a potential Season 2, they would approach the second installment "The Dark Forest." However, the final chapter of the trilogy, "Death's End," appears to be extensive, making the producers contemplate the possibility of spanning its storyline over multiple seasons.

He mentioned that the third book is quite extensive, approximately double the length of the previous two books. Therefore, it could potentially be adapted into a single season or perhaps divided into two. However, for the story to be fully covered, he believes that it would require a minimum of three to four seasons.

The new series titled "3 Body Problem" will be available for streaming on Netflix starting March 21st.
