Traffic traveling north on a section of the M6 has come to a stop after a truck plunged nearly 200 feet from the edge of Thelwall Viaduct close to Warrington.
The incident took place just before 7 p.m., and emergency responders were able to extract the driver from the site. Fortunately, it seems that the driver did not sustain any serious injuries.
Firefighters utilized specialized tools to descend and access the driver. They then employed containment methods to manage a leak of about 1000 liters of bio-diesel from the vehicle's fuel tanks.
Cheshire Police released a statement saying, "Officers are currently addressing a major accident on the M6 heading north."
Just after 6:50 PM on Monday, September 30th, law enforcement received notifications about an event on the M6 heading north at Thelwall Viaduct, situated between junctions 20 and 21.
Authorities arrived at the location and discovered that a truck had veered off the roadway and ended up on the slope beneath the bridge.
"The truck driver is thought to be uninjured in any serious way."
According to authorities, three lanes on the northbound side will likely stay closed until morning because of the damage to the barrier.
One lane will still be accessible, but with a lower speed limit.
Authorities have urged drivers to stay away from the location.
