Trevitt interview in Leicester City programme

Ryan Trevitt Reflects On His Journey To Pro Football

Trevitt played his first match in the Premier League against Tottenham in August and has been a key player in the Bees' journey in the Carabao Cup this season.

During the interview, he shares insights about his impactful time on loan at Exeter and discusses how Brentford's captain, Christian Nørgaard, supported him through his injury. Additionally, Trevitt's ex-coach, Andy Maciel, offers a deeper understanding of the person behind the athlete.

"When I was younger, I went through trials at Chelsea, but honestly, I don’t recall much from that time," Trevitt said.

When I was 15, I was at Fulham and had the opportunity to join the year below me on a scholarship. They mentioned that I needed to be among the top two players to secure a contract, so it might not have been the best time for me to go on trial. I came to terms with that pretty fast.

"When I was 16 at QPR, I played with the under-18 team and performed really well. They started asking me about things like accommodation and other necessities. That made me believe, 'I’m definitely getting signed here.'"

I walked into a meeting with my dad feeling excited, believing that my big moment had finally arrived. But then they informed me that they weren't going to sign me. That hit me hard. Once I got into the car, I completely lost it and started crying.

After being rejected by three different clubs, many teenagers might have concluded that a career in football wasn't meant for them.

"I never really believed that," Trevitt quickly counters.

"I was really confident in myself. Just a couple of days later, I was back to training with my coach."

"I was involved with the Leatherhead Youth team, but I spent most of my time with my coach, Andy Maciel. It was also great that my dad was the manager."

In addition to the Trevitt interview, the match program features a conversation with former Bees defender Ívar Ingimarsson, an in-depth analysis of the opposing team Leicester, and highlights on Brentford Women, Brentford B, and Brentford Under-18s.
