Gavin Plumb, aged 37, appeared in court in Chelmsford on Monday. He was charged in October with asking someone to commit murder, encouraging someone to kidnap, and encouraging someone to rape.

In the court, Prosecutor Alison Morgan KC informed the jurors about the previous crimes committed by the security officer at the shopping centre. These included restraining a 16-year-old girl with rope and tape, as well as attempting to kidnap women on a train while threatening them with a gun. Morgan argued that these past actions demonstrated his ability to scare and control women.

The 37-year-old is charged with working together with another man over the internet. They discussed the man coming from the US to the UK to commit the crimes. They made a careful plan that included putting together a kit for kidnapping and restraining someone.

Plumb, from Harlow in Essex, says he did not do anything wrong.

Ms Willoughby has chosen to publicly reveal her identity in relation to an allegation against Plumb involving aiding or promoting rape.
