It's no surprise that booking a performance from Beyoncé would involve a significant cost, but exactly how much does it really amount to?
The 43-year-old, who has won the Grammy Award 32 times, made a much-awaited appearance during the NFL Christmas Gameday, delivering an incredible live performance of songs from her new album, Cowboy Carter, for the first time.
During the halftime show of the second game featuring the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, Beyoncé electrified the audience with a vibrant performance, joined by a group of backup dancers that included her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, and a marching band. She also performed alongside Post Malone and Shaboozey, both artists appearing on the track, as they wowed the crowd with their incredible renditions of “Levii’s Jeans” and “Sweet ★ Honey ★ Buckiin.’”
In a pre-taped introduction, she made her entrance riding a white horse through the stadium's corridors while performing "16 Carriages." After getting off the horse, she launched into a rendition of The Beatles' "Blackbird," accompanied by fellow singers Tiera Kennedy, Tanner Adell, Reyna Roberts, and Brittney Spencer.
Created by Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment alongside Jesse Collins Entertainment, this captivating performance is said to be included in a $60 million agreement for three projects that Beyoncé signed with Netflix back in 2019.
Her initial collaboration with the streaming platform was the 2019 documentary concert film titled "Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé." This film showcased her headline performance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. According to Variety, the cost for this first project was approximately $20 million.
"If we accept this as a fact, then that amounts to $20 million dedicated solely to this [halftime] show," stated Dan Ruchie, founder of Trapital, a firm that offers analysis in the music and sports sectors, in an interview with Andscape.
The Independent has contacted Beyoncé's representative and Netflix for their response.
Before the Ravens overwhelmed the Texans 31-2, the Kansas City Chiefs secured a 29-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, keeping their almost flawless record for 2024 intact. This was the first time both games were broadcast live on Netflix, thanks to a new three-year agreement the streaming platform made with the NFL to showcase games on Christmas Day. The entire deal was valued at an astonishing $150 million.
