Villa lack 'big-team mentality' - Watkins

Aston Villa

Aston Villa managed to tie the match against Brentford thanks to Ollie Watkins' header in the final stages of the game. The final score of the game was 3-3.

According to Ollie Watkins, a forward for Aston Villa, his team doesn't possess the winning mindset of top-tier teams needed to secure important match victories.

They occupy the fourth spot in the Premier League standings and currently have a three-point lead over Tottenham, who sit in fifth place. However, their advantage is tempered by the fact that they have played two more matches than their London rivals.

Watkins made it clear in an interview with BBC Match of the Day that he is not trying to diminish the importance of his team. He is an integral part of it. The team needs to come up with a solution to the problem of conceding goals when they are in a winning position.

Villa did really well in the beginning of the season and had a chance to be in the first place of the Premier League on December 22nd. However, they didn't make it and only got a draw with Sheffield United.

By the year 2024, Villa have secured five victories in twelve league games, falling behind their competitors Spurs who they had been six points ahead of back in December.

Villa's recent game on Saturday was the third instance this season where they gave up a two-goal advantage. On 26th December, they led 2-0 against Manchester United but ended up losing 3-2.

On March 2nd, Luton fought back after being behind 2-0. Nonetheless, Villa managed to make a comeback and secured a win of 3-2.

Watkins expressed his disappointment after the Brentford match, stating that he found it frustrating that the team did not have the mindset of a top-performing team, as they were unable to finish off the game decisively.

Last Saturday, Brentford was not looking very dangerous for most of the game. But suddenly, in a flurry of activity, they managed to score three goals in just nine minutes.

All three goals were scored from passes into the penalty area.

Manager Unai Emery stated that they completely lost control, which was not a usual occurrence. Additionally, they were slightly upset emotionally.

If Villa don't make it to fourth place, they still have a chance to qualify for the Champions League this season by securing fifth place.

The country of England has a favorable chance of obtaining one of the 'Performance Slots' designated by Uefa. This would permit an additional team from the Premier League to participate in the top European club tournament.

The Villa football team has a lead of 12 points over Manchester United who are ranked sixth, but Villa has played two more games than them.
