Wednesday stun Norwich with late comeback

Sheffield Wednesday

The athletes of Sheffield Wednesday are rejoicing the achievement of Michael Smith in scoring a goal that evened out the match against Norwich City.

At Hillsborough stadium, Sheffield Wednesday made an incredible comeback to prevent Norwich City from winning by scoring two goals.

Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz scored goals for Norwich in the first half, leading them to a comfortable lead. However, despite having multiple opportunities to increase their lead, they failed to do so and were eventually punished.

On Wednesday, they brought the score closer by scoring a goal 12 minutes before the end of the game, with Michael Ihiekwe using his head to make the shot. Then, Michael Smith managed to tie up the game again only five minutes before the final whistle.

The team led by David Wagner failed to take advantage of the opportunity to secure a seven-point lead over Coventry in the play-off race. Meanwhile, Wednesday is still in the danger zone of relegation, only surviving on goal difference.

The soccer team from Norwich had an opportunity to score when Marcelino Nunez stole the ball from Barry Bannan close to Wednesday's goal. Nunez shot the ball towards the net, but Beadle, the opposing team's goalkeeper, saved it. Ashley Barnes tried to kick the ball into the goal with the rebound, but missed and shot it over the crossbar.

On the 11th minute, the guests took the lead. Sam McCallum threw the ball in, Barnes redirected it and Sargent received it to score. This was his 15th goal in 22 matches.

Norwich took advantage of another mistake in their opponents' defense five minutes after their previous goal. Nunez passed the ball to Sainz, who successfully scored his fifth goal this season. Just before this, Sainz missed a goal that went towards the opposite direction of the post.

The Canaries were very self-assured and controlled the rest of the half. They had a chance to score a third goal, but Gabriel Sara missed with a header and Nunez failed to hit the target twice.

In the second half, Jack Stacey came close to scoring a third goal for Norwich, but Beadle did a great job saving the ball by using his feet near the goalpost.

On Wednesday, there was a strong desire for inspiration, and it was sought out from Bannan. But unfortunately, Bannan expressed frustration when he missed an uncommon chance, feeling unlucky at the other end.

In a slightly unexpected turn of events, Ihiekwe managed to bring Wednesday back into the game at the 78th minute, scoring from a corner by Will Vaulks. This spurred on a fast-paced and exciting finish to the match.

Seven minutes after Vaulks' corner, Smith managed to head the ball into the net, completing the amazing comeback. Norwich regretted their failure to mark adequately during set-piece situations.

The Sheffield Wednesday head coach, Danny Rohl, was interviewed by BBC Radio Sheffield.

In my opinion, we should be rewarded with one point for our impressive performance in the second half. Our team's morale was strong, which is in stark contrast to our subpar performance in the first half.

The audience seemed to lack enthusiasm and was somewhat muted. However, during the latter half of the game, we began to improve our performance. We asserted ourselves and the spectators rallied behind us. Our collaborative efforts paid off as we achieved a favorable outcome.

Norwich is a fine squad that's currently experiencing a good spell. Their ball build-up tactics were impressive and unfortunately, we failed to initiate our pressing moves in time.

Given that I am currently present, it's common for players to lack the necessary energy during the second game, especially when two games are played within the span of three days. Therefore, in the latter half of the game, we steered towards a more straightforward playstyle. When we reached halftime, we had to give it our all since there were only two possibilities: we could lose the game by a significant margin, or we could make a comeback. This reflects our team's unity, drive, perseverance, and vitality. We need to keep this mentality going forward.

During an interview with BBC Radio Norfolk, David Wagner, the manager of Norwich, shared his perspective.

We didn't end the game. During the latter half, we had fantastic chances to score when launching counterattacks, but we failed to capitalise on them.

I am not happy because we were not able to finish the game.
