The second half of the game started off with some intense action. The Dutch team scored first to bring the score to 20-18, but then Nenganga was fouled and awarded a penalty. She had made all four of her previous attempts, but unfortunately missed her fifth shot, which was saved by Yara ten Holte. It was surprising to see Yara come in specifically to save penalties. Nenganga couldn't believe it and looked towards her teammates on the bench in shock.
On the opposite side of the court, Juliana Machado gives a strong push to her opponent from the back. As a result, she is given a two-minute suspension. Shortly after, her teammate receives a one-minute suspension as well. This creates a double power-play opportunity for the Dutch team, who capitalize on it and increase their lead to 23-20.
We are currently at the halfway point in the second handball match of the day, and it has been a tightly contested game up to this point. The Netherlands are slightly ahead of Angola with a score of 19-18, in what is shaping up to be a game with a lot of points scored. Angola managed to find their groove towards the end of the half, narrowing the lead to just one goal.
Vilma Nenganga, Estavana Polman, and Angela Malestein have each scored four goals.
When it comes to Team USA, how do you think they will do in Paris? Our American writers believe that they will outperform China in terms of winning gold medals. The women's teams are expected to excel, and it's likely that Noah Lyles and Kate Douglass will become well-known names across the nation.
The American men's basketball team recently held their initial press event in Paris, featuring Steph Curry and Kevin Durant.
Curry, known as one of the greatest three-point shooters ever, was questioned about adapting to the international three-point line, which is closer than the NBA's. The line in the international games is shorter, measuring 6.75m to 6.60m on the baseline, compared to the NBA's 7.24m to 6.70m on the baseline. Although Curry hasn't played international basketball since 2014, this will mark his debut in the Olympic Games.
Certainly, there is a process of getting used to it. I am always aware of my position on the NBA court. I am familiar with it to some extent. It's a bit of a change. I may have taken a few shots from farther away during the warmup games. But I believe we have moved on from that now. Ultimately, I try not to dwell on it.
Curry was also questioned about how he plans to enjoy the atmosphere of the event, and he responded by saying:
I'm eager to watch some gymnastics, beach volleyball, and swimming. I feel excited and energized by watching other athletes take part in their competitions. I prefer to watch these events live rather than from the comfort of my room in front of the TV.
The US men's and women's teams are both current Olympic champions. Even though the men's team had a little trouble in their practice game against South Sudan, they are still considered the top team to defeat.
Raise your hand if you're feeling lost about what went down in the football game yesterday... Wait, everyone? Perfect, because I'm right there with you. Let's try to untangle this whole situation together.
Before the Morocco-Argentina match started, the Argentine players and their national anthem were criticized and insulted by fans in the St-Etienne stadium. This reaction could be due to the recent controversy involving Enzo Fernández, a Chelsea midfielder who recorded the Argentine team singing racist and homophobic songs against France after winning the Copa América.
Morocco was ahead 2-1, but at the end of the game (during the extra 15 minutes added on at the end!), Argentina scored a goal to tie the game.
The crowd from Morocco rushed onto the field, causing the game to be paused. The players had to leave the field for over an hour. Video Assistant Referee (VAR) then got involved and found that there was an offside in the lead up to the goal that tied the game. As a result, Argentina's goal was disallowed more than an hour after it was scored. This was a historic and unexpected turn of events.
They finally completed the match, with Morocco winning 2-1. Javier Mascherano, the coach of Argentina, described the whole situation as a "circus," raising concerns about the security measures at the Games.
The French police famously mismanaged the situation leading to the 2022 Champions League final.
The women's individual archery ranking round is currently taking place this morning.
The Olympic archery competition kicks off with the ranking rounds, followed by matchplay rounds held later in the Games.
At the moment, Lim Si-hyeon is at the forefront. She is a member of a youthful South Korean team that is eager to protect their team championship from Tokyo and achieve their tenth individual gold medal in the competition.
There is strong competition, with Casey Kaufhold aiming to become the first American woman to win an individual gold medal since Luann Ryon in 1976.
Mexico's Alejandra Valencia came in second place at the world championships and is now participating in her fourth Olympics.
The archery competitions are being held at the Hôtel des Invalides, a historic site in France that celebrates the country's military history dating back to the time of Louis XIV in 1687.
The well-known golden dome stands out in the view above the peaceful gardens around the former military hospital that is now a museum. What can you find inside? Only the burial site of Napoleon.
Andy Murray Pulls Out Of Men's Singles, To Focus On Doubles
There were whispers and speculation, and nearly confirmed reports, but it is now officially announced. Andy Murray will not be competing in singles in Paris. His singles playing days have come to an end.
"I've made the choice to pull out of the singles event in order to focus on playing doubles with Dan [Evans]. Our training sessions have been fantastic and we make a great team," Murray announced. "I can't wait to begin and have the opportunity to represent Great Britain once again."
The women's handball match between Slovenia and Denmark has just ended. Denmark came out on top with a score of 27-19.
In their first game, goalkeeper Sandra Toft managed to make 13 saves while every Danish player had the chance to play for a bit.
The team from Denmark has won the Olympic gold medal three times in 1996, 2000, and 2004. However, they did not make it to the last two Olympic Games. Jesper Jensen's team consists of young players looking to bring back the success of the past.
The handball tournament involves two teams of six competing against each other. The top four teams will move on to the elimination rounds.
Before we dive into what's happening today, let's briefly discuss Team GB's chances of winning medals. There's a potential exciting competition in the men's 1500m race, talented world champions competing in the women's lightweight double sculls event, and an opportunity for some skateboarders to shine.
Here's Ben Bloom with additional information.
