Xavi stance on becoming Man Utd manager revealed after Erik ten Hag exit
Former Barcelona manager Xavi is determined to wrap up his one-year break after rumors surfaced about him potentially taking on the role of Manchester United's next coach.
On Monday morning, United decided to dismiss Erik ten Hag after the team lost 2-1 to West Ham in a Premier League match the previous afternoon.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named the interim manager, while United has announced that they are in the process of looking for someone to take on the role permanently.
Xavi has been widely rumored to be transferring to Old Trafford, with recent reports suggesting that Manchester United has already engaged in discussions with the 44-year-old coach.
On Sunday, Xavi's wife gave a significant clue by sharing a photo on her Instagram stories. In the picture, their son is seen wearing a United jersey while sitting next to his father.
Multiple Spanish sources, such as Marca and Relevo, suggest that Xavi prefers to continue spending time with his family and is not expected to take up a new coaching position until the summer of next year.
At the same time, ex-Liverpool player Jamie Carragher thinks that Xavi, who left his position at Barcelona after last season, would earn immediate respect from the Manchester United players.
"It seems they're in discussions with Xavi from Barcelona. He was one of my favorite players; I truly believe he's the best Spanish player ever," Carragher stated to Sky Sports.
He has coached Barcelona and was considered the successor to Pep Guardiola. Even during his playing career, many believed he would become an outstanding manager. Although he lost his position, he still secured the La Liga title, defeating a Carlo Ancelotti-led Real Madrid in the process.
"Yes, he’s currently unemployed, which simplifies things. There’s a connection between a board member and Xavi, and there have been some reports about discussions taking place recently."
"I'm uncertain about what Manchester United should do at this point. I don't believe the fans would support bringing in Gareth Southgate, but I think hiring Xavi could actually be a good choice."
"His reputation as a player is immense, and while that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be a fantastic manager, it does earn him immediate respect on the training ground."
"No one else in that locker room has as much experience as he does, having managed a major football club and achieved significant success. He has secured a league title and a cup, even competing against someone like Carlo Ancelotti. His credentials are impressive, so I believe hiring him would be a solid choice."
