Leicester edge past Millwall to reach round four

Millwall vs Leicester City

Leicester City exhibited their precise performance to defeat Millwall in an exciting matchup between two Championship teams at the Den. This victory allowed Leicester to advance to round four of the FA Cup.

At the start of the game, the Foxes scored with their initial offensive move. Marc Albrighton made a cross from the right, allowing Cesare Casadei to make a forceful header. From there, Casadei assisted Ricardo Pereira in getting open and making a solid shot, which went past Matija Sarkic.

After the intermission, Duncan Watmore managed to score from a short distance, decreasing the difference in points. However, Tom Cannon extended the lead, outrunning the approaching Sarkic and successfully putting away Callum Doyle's lengthy pass into the goal.

Zian Flemming made the ending of the match more exciting when he scored a goal from Joe Bryan's corner kick. However, the winners of the 2021 cup and the leading team in the Championship managed to maintain their lead and advance to the next round.

For the third year in a row, Millwall has been eliminated in the third round of the competition. Despite this, they gave Leicester a tough time, with both teams having eight shots on target. In fact, at the end of the match, Millwall almost scored a goal that would have forced a replay when Flemming's free-kick from the corner of the box skimmed past the far post.

Despite making seven alterations, Leicester managed to keep their undefeated streak alive for the 11th straight match and secured their 24th triumph in 30 games across all competitions this season.

Jakub Stolarczyk, who was filling in as the goalkeeper for the Foxes, demonstrated his worth in only his fifth game of the season. He made impressive saves against Watmore and Danny McNamara while Millwall got off to a strong start. However, City managed to take the lead thanks to Casadei, an on-loan Chelsea midfielder, who scored his third goal of the season.

The Lions, who made six alterations to their line-up, persisted in creating opportunities. From Bryan's corner, Jake Cooper had a chance to score with a free header, but he missed the target. Pereira then made it two successful shots on goal for the away team.

In the second half of the game, there was a lot of excitement and fast-paced action. Sarkic made an impressive save by diving to prevent Cannon from scoring and keeping the Lions in the game. Shortly after, Watmore scored a goal that was well-deserved due to his excellent performance.

The feeling of optimism quickly faded away after six minutes when Sarkic made a serious mistake in assessing Doyle's direct pass and Cannon's third goal in two games appeared to have secured the victory.

Sarkic blocked attempts from the skilled 21-year-old Cannon twice, as well as Albrighton. Then, Flemming's precise execution caused some tension and resulted in a repeat of the scoreline from the league meeting last month.
