Kylian Mbappé reacts with fury at Swedish reports of rape claim

Swedish authorities have announced that they are investigating a rape case in Stockholm, but did not disclose Kylian Mbappé's name, despite media claims linking the French national team captain and Real Madrid player to the investigation.

According to documents reviewed by the Swedish public broadcaster SVT, the French football player is regarded as having a “reasonable suspicion” of rape, which is the less severe level of suspicion defined by Swedish law.

It was reported that the allegation of sexual assault was filed following Mbappé's trip to Sweden. Other media outlets in Sweden also covered this story.

On Tuesday, the Swedish Prosecution Authority announced: "Following media coverage of a potential rape incident in Stockholm, the prosecutor has confirmed that a police report has been filed."

The report states that the event occurred on October 10 at a hotel located in the heart of Stockholm.

The inquiry is being directed by chief prosecutor Marina Chirakova, who couldn't offer any additional remarks.

The prosecutor's office chose not to address inquiries regarding the allegations, stating to the Guardian: "The prosecutor can neither confirm nor deny anything further."

During the latest international break, Mbappé skipped France's Nations League games against Israel and Belgium to focus on recovering from a thigh injury. Instead, he was seen dining at a restaurant called Chez Jolie in Stockholm, followed by a visit to the nightclub V in Stureplan, as reported by the newspaper Aftonbladet.

On Monday afternoon, Mbappé expressed his anger over an initial report by Aftonbladet that mentioned the alleged incident without directly naming him. He is currently in a disagreement with Paris Saint-Germain, his previous team, regarding an alleged €55 million in unpaid wages, which is being reviewed by a French league committee on Tuesday. He seemed to connect the timing of the allegations to this ongoing issue.

"False information alert! It’s becoming increasingly obvious, popping up right before the hearing as if it's a coincidence," he posted on X, including a winking emoji.

Mbappé's team refuted the claims in a statement to Agence France-Presse and warned that they might escalate the situation.

"Today, a malicious rumor is beginning to circulate online, originating from the Swedish news outlet Aftonbladet," the statement said. "These claims are entirely untrue and reckless, and spreading them is not acceptable."

“To stop the ongoing damage to Kylian Mbappé’s reputation, we will take all appropriate legal steps to set the record straight and hold accountable anyone or any media outlet that is involved in the ongoing moral harassment and defamatory actions directed at him.”

PSG chose not to provide a comment, with a representative stating that they will maintain their "dignity and class." The club reportedly would be shocked and astonished if there were any implications that they had a role in creating such an accusation.

The Swedish police stated that they cannot provide any comments and directed inquiries to the prosecutor's office.
