French coach Didier Deschamps breaks silence on Kylian Mbappe rape allegation

Didier Deschamps, the coach of France, stated that a report suggesting captain Kylian Mbappe is under investigation for rape in Sweden is 'not beneficial for the national team.' This comes after Mbappe referred to the allegations as 'fake news.'

"While everyone has the liberty to express their thoughts, there seems to be a negative vibe surrounding the French team," Deschamps stated to reporters after his team's 2-1 victory against Belgium in the UEFA Nations League last night.

He made these remarks in reply to inquiries regarding Mbappe, the French captain who was granted the chance to skip the team’s matches this month to focus on improving his fitness.

There was already some disagreement leading up to last Thursday’s victory over Israel, and on Monday, a newspaper in Sweden reported that the Real Madrid forward is under investigation for rape after a trip to Stockholm.

Following a report by the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet about an alleged rape case that was brought to the attention of law enforcement, the accused individual's name was not disclosed. However, another publication, Expressen, later identified 25-year-old Mbappe as the suspect in the matter.

"Be cautious when you're lifting objects," Deschamps advised.

"You should consider holding off on sharing anything and everything right away. These situations occur quite frequently," he remarked, seemingly questioning the validity of the report.

The Swedish police later stated that they were looking into a report of rape that occurred on October 10 at a hotel in central Stockholm, but they did not identify Mbappe as a suspect.

The soccer player traveled to Sweden with his friends from Wednesday to Friday last week, and they stayed at the Bank Hotel located in the heart of the city.

France's head coach Didier Deschamps participated in a press conference following the UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A2 game between France and Belgium.

Kylian Mbappe has rejected the claims made against him, calling them false information.

Deschamps remarked, "Some things are easy to confirm, but if you believe just anything..."

Regardless, I won't be discussing it with him. He's mature enough to figure out how to express himself.

Last week, from Wednesday to Friday, the football player spent time in Sweden with his friends, lodging at the Bank Hotel located in the heart of the city.

On Thursday, the Real Madrid player stopped by the Chez Jolie restaurant, then went to the V nightclub, and finally returned to his hotel in a black van with his group.

Aftonbladet reported that authorities are looking into a sexual assault that reportedly took place at a hotel in central Stockholm on Thursday night.

Mbappe posted a newspaper article about the supposed rape on X, commenting, "Fake News! It’s getting so obvious, just conveniently before the hearing," in reference to an upcoming hearing regarding his battle with his old club PSG over £46 million in unpaid salaries and bonuses, which is scheduled for today.

Mbappe's team released a statement to AFP, stating, "Today, a fresh defamatory rumor is beginning to circulate online, originating from the Swedish publication Aftonbladet."

These allegations are entirely untrue and careless, and spreading them is not acceptable.

To stop the ongoing damage to Kylian Mbappe's reputation, we will take all appropriate legal steps to restore the truth and hold accountable anyone or any media outlet participating in the ongoing moral harassment and defamatory actions against him, the statement continued.

An insider connected to Paris Saint-Germain informed AFP that they would 'dismiss' Mbappe's assertion regarding a connection between the report from Sweden and his conflict with the team.

According to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, authorities are looking into a reported rape that took place at the Bank Hotel in central Stockholm, where Mbappe was staying. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday night.

However, Mbappe posted a newspaper article about the alleged rape on X and commented, "False information!"

On Thursday, the Real Madrid player stopped by the Chez Jolie restaurant (shown on the left as he left with his friends), then made his way to the V nightclub and later returned to his hotel in a black van accompanied by his group.

According to Aftonbladet, detectives and a forensic team were present at the site of the reported crime on Monday.

The news outlet stated that concerns about the supposed rape emerged when the woman went to a nearby hospital for treatment.

On Friday, Mbappe departed from Bromma Airport in Sweden on a private jet.

The prosecutor overseeing the rape investigation chose not to provide any remarks on the matter, stating to local media, "I have nothing to say about this."

A spokesperson for Stockholm police, Carina Skagerlind, provided a similar response to MailOnline, stating, "The police are unable to confirm or deny the existence of such a case."

As reported by Aftonbladet, there have not been any suspects identified in the case at this time.

MailOnline has reached out to both the local prosecutor's office and Bank Hotel for a response.
