A law enforcement official with a Taser weapon used force against a man lying on the ground at Manchester Airport by kicking and stepping on his head.

The event was recorded and has been widely shared on social networking platforms.

After the incident, Assistant Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that one officer "has been taken off their regular duties".

However, it is believed that the officer has not been placed on suspension.

ACC Chaudhry mentioned, "We are aware of a video circulating widely that depicts a disturbing incident at Manchester Airport. This has understandably caused great concern among the public."

The use of force in making an arrest is not common and we know it can be concerning.

GMP stated that the police had been called to respond to a reported assault at Terminal 2 around 8:25pm on Tuesday.

"The person believed to be involved was captured on camera at a parking lot ticket machine, and police went to the scene to apprehend him," ACC Chaudhry explained.

In the incident, law enforcement reported that three officers were attacked. A female officer received a broken nose, while the other officers were taken down and sustained injuries that needed medical attention.

Previously, GMP stated that the officers present were armed and there was a high risk of their firearms being seized during the assault. They recognized the issues raised by the actions in the video.

Four individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the altercation. Two are being held for allegedly committing assault, assault on an emergency responder, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, while the other two are being held for suspected involvement in disorderly conduct and assaulting an emergency responder.

An eyewitness named Amar informed Sky News that he heard yelling as he was walking around the corner in the neighborhood. He overheard someone saying, "You're being arrested, you're wanted."

He mentioned that he witnessed a man being held against the wall, followed by a scuffle.

Amar stated that he thinks that was when the man's sibling hurried over to the scene, only to be knocked down and beaten by the police officers.

Law enforcement agencies are required to report incidents involving the use of force to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Manchester Airport stated that they are aware of an incident that occurred involving officers from Greater Manchester Police yesterday. The police force is currently looking into the matter.

"We are committed to assisting in the investigation in every possible way."

The police department stated that they are voluntarily referring their policing actions to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.

A representative from the IOPC mentioned that they are aware that Greater Manchester Police will be making a voluntary referral, which they will review when received to determine the next steps.

Home Office minister Dame Diana Johnson stated that she has seen concerning video footage from an incident at Manchester Airport and acknowledges the public's worry it has caused. She has requested a comprehensive report from Greater Manchester Police.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, stated that he discussed his worries with the deputy chief constable of the police force. He also mentioned that he has watched the troubling video that has been circulating of a police officer at Manchester Airport. Burnham acknowledged the significant level of concern that this incident has stirred up among the people of Greater Manchester and beyond.

The assistant mayor and I have expressed these worries to the assistant head of the police.

On Wednesday evening, a group of protestors assembled outside of the Rochdale police station. The demonstrators were showing their disapproval of the behavior of the officers who were allegedly involved in the incident.

The demonstration occurred without any violence and all participants eventually left without any issues.

ACC Chaudhry expressed understanding towards the strong emotions of concern and worry that the public may have regarding our actions. We acknowledge and support their right to peacefully protest and share their views.
