Jermaine Jenas responds to the referee's call in the exciting victory of Liverpool.

Mark Clattenburg, the referee analyst for Nottingham Forest, expressed his disapproval of the way the officials handled the game leading up to Liverpool's thrilling and decisive goal at the City Ground last Saturday.

According to Clattenburg, he was forbidden from entering the referees' changing area to converse with Paul Tierney after the match.

After the end of the match, the players of the Forest team encircled Tierney, expressing their anger at the ruling to grant the ball to Liverpool after Ibrahima Konate suffered a head injury.

When the game was halted, the team playing at their own ground had the ball.

Nonetheless, the match resumed as Liverpool goalie Caoimhin Kelleher had possession of the ball after Tierney's action.

Afterward, Darwin Nunez managed to score the game-winning point precisely one minute and fifty seconds after that.

Clattenburg, who recently started working at the City Ground, stated on BBC Radio 5 Live that Forest should have been in possession of the ball again.

In case the game is interrupted by the referee, it is necessary that he returns the ball to the team currently having possession. The team in possession of the ball at the time of the stoppage was Forest.

The coach of Forest, Steven Reid, received a red card for arguing with Tierney after the game ended.

At present, Clattenburg is a featured personality in the TV series Gladiators on BBC. He was seen alongside Howard Webb, the head of the referees' organization PGMOL, during Forest's loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Wednesday. Clattenburg was a Premier League referee for a total of 13 years, spanning from 2004 to 2017.

Rob Schofield, a football reporter from BBC Radio 5 live, reported that there were angry incidents when the match ended. Reid and the owner of Forest, Evangelos Marinakis, chased after the officials until they reached the referee's room.

According to Schofield, Marinakis was shouting, "Show some respect to the players. This is a regular occurrence every week." The owner of Forest was then guided away from the situation.

According to the regulations of the International Football Association Board (Ifab), the previous referee was correct in stating that the match ought to have recommenced with a ball from Forest.

Although the decision did not directly result in the goal, Forest managed to retrieve the possession which eventually led to Nunez scoring the decisive goal.

Clattenburg added that Forest is feeling upset because Liverpool scored right after the ball was passed to the goalkeeper.

"I didn't talk to the referee, I'll let the club handle that. I attempted to visit the referee's dressing room once the game ended, but he denied me access."

Forest currently stand at 17th position in the rankings, with four points more than the danger zone, but they have played another game. In their 2022-23 accounts, they are accused by the Premier League of breaking the profit and sustainability regulations (PSR). This violation could result in a loss of points before the end of the season.

Former Premier League football player Alan Shearer commented on Match of the Day that the referee made a significant error.

"He's completely mistaken," he stated. "Hudson-Odoi possessed the ball, but then he made a mistake and relinquished it without any opposition to the [Liverpool] goalkeeper, which is totally incorrect."

The point in question pertains to the ball being on the wing within the forest area. I somewhat comprehend the moment in time - precisely after one minute and fifty seconds. However, if the position of the ball is shifted to where it ought to have been within the forest region, the entire scenario is altered.

Jermaine Jenas, who is also a pundit for MOTD, expressed his disappointment with the decision made by the referee. According to Jenas, Forest had Liverpool on the ropes at that moment in the game. There was a possibility of them getting another corner or even taking another shot at the goal. Releasing the pressure at that critical point was a terrible call made by the referee. Forest will have to take this as a significant setback and continue to move forward.

Forest made a formal objection to the referees' organization PGMOL in August due to the conduct of the officials during their loss against Manchester United with a score of 3-2.

The coach Nuno Espirito Santo was really angry about the two goals that Brentford was allowed to score when they defeated Forest in January. Additionally, he thought that his team should have gotten a penalty because of a bad foul on Taiwo Awoniyi in their loss to Newcastle in the previous month.

According to Clattenburg, Forest believes that they have been on the receiving end of many unfavorable decisions. Losing in such a manner has caused widespread disappointment and sorrow among the team and their supporters.

"We must remain optimistic for a turn of fortune for the club in the upcoming times."
