Kate Garraway joined by emotional children for 'bittersweet' NTAs victory | HELLO!

During last year's event, Kate was accompanied by her daughter, Darcey. However, this time, both her son, Billy, and her daughter were there as well, and they all came up on stage with their mom.

There were moments when the teenagers seemed quite moved while Kate honored their deceased father, and one team member was even brought to tears during the heartfelt speech given by the presenter.

"This moment feels a bit bittersweet, doesn't it? Being here with the lovely Darcy and Billy brings mixed emotions. I've assured them that they don't need to speak," Kate began.

"We're now six months into a year full of 'firsts'—the first Easter and the first birthdays without Derek. It's a bit surreal to experience the first Television Awards without him here, but tonight is dedicated to you, Derek. However, this isn't solely about Derek's story; we didn't anticipate creating this final segment. In fact, we didn’t want to be in the position of making any of these three pieces, but sometimes, circumstances unfold in ways we don't choose."

Kate commended the team for their performance, highlighting a producer named Lucy, who was deeply moved while on stage.

The day held additional importance for Kate, as it came right after what would have marked her 20th wedding anniversary with Derek.

In a video posted online, the TV host appears quite moved as she talks about the day. She says, "Hi everyone. Today marks what would have been my 20th wedding anniversary with Derek, and it’s still considered our 20th anniversary. It's one of those days we used to talk about—like Christmas, Easter, or his birthday—when you really feel that deep emotional impact."

I've been feeling quite sorry for myself lately, and I can't help it because this is something deeply personal. This day holds immense significance for both him and me. His absence is painfully noticeable, almost like the loud sound of a train passing by.

I've been embracing my grief, following the advice that people often give, and revisiting the heartfelt messages he wrote in cards from past anniversaries, which I truly appreciate. I’ve also been watching the documentary again in light of the National Television Awards happening tomorrow, and I’m in awe of his resilience over the years. This particular documentary focuses on his journey and highlights themes of compassion and vulnerability.
