Ipswich snatch win in seven-goal Rotherham thriller

Ipswich Town

Kieffer Moore marked his comeback to Ipswich on a loan deal from Bournemouth with his fourth strike in five matches.

Ipswich Town achieved a thrilling victory with a goal in the 95th minute, preventing Rotherham United from obtaining a point and elevating their position to third place in the Championship standings.

Omari Hutchinson, who was playing as a substitute at home, scored the winning goal to secure a victory by three points. This was after Rotherham had managed to tie the game in extra time, having trailed by two goals earlier.

The Millers were taken by surprise when Tom Eaves scored a relaxed goal, putting them ahead early on. However, Wes Burns managed to score twice, both before and after Kieffer Moore's goal.

After falling behind 3-1, Rotherham believed they had secured a tie with goals from Hakeem Odoffin and Cafu's penalty, but Hutchinson's timely intervention secured the win.

With this victory, Ipswich has leveled with Leeds for points. However, their goal difference is not as good. They will be facing Birmingham on Saturday at their home stadium.

Rotherham surprised the spectators by scoring a goal in the beginning of the match.

In midfield, Sam Clucas used his toe to push the ball through towards Eaves. Eaves, with impressive calmness, directed the ball towards the bottom corner to score.

Sam Morsy delivered a well-placed pass from the left side which reached Burns. Burns managed to jump high and head the ball into the net from a short distance. This resulted in an advantage for a total of seven minutes.

Ipswich, led by Kieran McKenna, appeared to become more active when Burns delivered a hazardous cross from the right side. Moore successfully directed the ball into the goal with excellent contact.

Burns played a part in scoring his second goal. His first shot was saved by the Rotherham goalkeeper, Viktor Johansson. Johansson also saved the shot from left-back, Leif Davis. This left Burns with an easy task of tapping the ball into the goal as the net was empty.

The Millers persevered and Odoffin scored a goal by hitting the ball low with a volley, which decreased the difference to only one goal. This occurred because the opposing team's defense was unable to handle Clucas' pass into the penalty area.

It seemed like Ipswich had a greater chance of scoring because Burns was able to quickly save Johansson's attempt. However, unexpected events unfolded towards the end of the match at Portman Road.

During the game, Cafu executed a Panenka-style penalty, scoring the game-tying 3-3 goal in the 94th minute. However, Rotherham's defense did not effectively stop Hutchinson who was able to execute a beautiful left-footed finish, securing a last-minute victory for Ipswich in a highly theatrical and thrilling manner.

Rotherham has been defeated in 20 Championship games so far this season. They are set to play against QPR on Saturday, which is also struggling in the league. However, Rotherham will have to play seven more away games to prevent an entire season without scoring a win on the road.

During an interview with BBC Radio Suffolk, Kieran McKenna, who is currently the manager of Ipswich Town, stated that...

The night was quite chaotic from the beginning. We were unable to maintain our grip or calmness during the game as we had hoped.

Although we didn't do everything perfectly, we managed to find the back of the net four times during our home game and ultimately secured a win in the Championship.

There are some things we need to take note of, but we achieved a favorable outcome.

The team from Rotherham visited us and they competed with a fearless attitude. They gave us a tough challenge and we found ourselves playing the way they wanted us to play.
