Uruguayan players, including Nunez, entered the Bank of America Stadium stands in Charlotte after violence was said to have erupted in the area where their families were seated.
Video showed Nunez scaling the railings before approaching Colombia fans as others attempted to hold him back.

Uruguay players stated that they went up into the stands to protect their loved ones.
Luis Suarez mentioned that while it is natural to want to defend your family when they are under attack, it is important to consider the impact this has on your public image.
We needed to ensure the safety of our loved ones who were present. I witnessed many family members, especially the children of my teammates, getting stuck and being hit by falling objects. It was a helpless feeling.
Uruguayan player Jose Gimenez told FOX Soccer: "A group of Colombian fans attacked our families. This is a catastrophe. Our loved ones are at risk."
After the match, CONMEBOL issued a statement expressing its strong disapproval of any violence that impacts the game.
"The core belief of our work is that soccer has the ability to bring people together and create unity through its positive principles," stated the message.
