Anne Hathaway reveals miscarriage while in play in which she had to 'give birth every night'

Actress Anne Hathaway recently revealed that she experienced a miscarriage in 2015 during her performance in a play where she portrayed a character who gave birth on stage every night.

The accomplished actor, who has won an Oscar, shared with Vanity Fair that her initial pregnancy was not successful. She elaborated, saying that whilst she was performing in a play, she had to act out giving birth every night on stage.

The actress, who is 41 years old, discussed her solo act in a show called Grounded that takes place off-Broadway. The show touches on the storyline of a pilot who is pregnant.

She had to perform the role of giving birth every night for six weeks, but unfortunately, she experienced a pregnancy loss during that period.

She confessed to her friends who paid her a visit backstage that keeping up the act of appearing to be alright during the show was too challenging for her. She had been putting on a facade of being fine.

Hathaway presently has given birth to two male children with her spouse, Adam Shulman.

Following the birth of her son Jonathan in March of 2016, she disclosed her second pregnancy via an Instagram post in July 2019. However, in the same post, she also shed light on her previous fertility problems.

She posted a picture of herself with a visible pregnant belly and accompanying captioned it by saying that it is not for a film. However, she wanted to express how difficult it can be for people facing complications with infertility and conception. She says it is important for them to know that her journey towards pregnancy was not straightforward, and she hopes to convey her love and support to them.

It might have seemed insincere.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, she explained why she wrote the message. She expressed that since she had gone through a lot of struggles in her pregnancy journey, it wouldn't have been truthful to only post something that seemed completely celebratory. She acknowledges that this is a common experience for many people.

She mentioned that she did not intend to feel embarrassed about something that appeared to be fairly common in terms of statistics.

Hathaway expressed her surprise upon learning the high frequency rate of miscarriages.

"I wondered to myself, where can we find this information? What's causing us to feel so alone without reason? That's when we start to suffer harm. So, I made the choice to speak up about it."

She expressed that the response she received for her post left her astounded. Women would often approach her, even after several years, with tears in their eyes due to the impact her message had on them.

She spoke, "I used to embrace her, as she carried this [sorrow] within her, but then suddenly it didn't belong to her alone anymore."

It's okay not to be elegant all the time.

She continued by saying, "After experiencing the feeling of success firsthand, I realized that when it happens for someone else, you don't need to force yourself to be happy for them. I want my sisters to know that it's okay not to always have that gracefulness."

"I recognize you and I have experienced the same."

Hathaway had her second child, a son named Jack, in November of last year.

At the same time, Lorraine Kelly, who works as a presenter on TV, has expressed her thoughts on the unfortunate event of her pregnancy loss more than two decades ago. She is glad to see that people are becoming more open to discussing such experiences.

In an interview with Saga Magazine, the individual at the age of 64 expressed their thoughts by saying, "I often contemplate about the hypothetical outcomes. There is another life that could have existed simultaneously."

I distinctly recall a moment when an individual declared, "This is quite prevalent."

They attempted to comfort me, but their efforts actually led to my worsening emotional state. It dawned on me that numerous individuals experience similar feelings.

When talking about discussions about miscarriages, she mentioned that it is positive that we are having more conversations about this topic. We are becoming more transparent, and this is a good thing. It's important to have the freedom to grieve and go through the process in the way that works for you.

There are individuals who prefer not to discuss the matter, while there are those who are willing to converse about it.

Kelly, a woman with a grown-up daughter named Rosie, mentioned that she couldn't have more children due to various reasons. She explained that it didn't work out for her, and they couldn't conceive again. Additionally, she shared that she had already crossed her forties when it became apparent that parenthood was not in their future. Therefore, she concluded that they missed their chance to have more kids.

This year at the Bafta television awards, a Scottish TV host will be honored with a special award, acknowledging her extensive career spanning over forty years in the broadcasting field.

The upcoming film, Mother's Instinct, will feature Hathaway in a leading role as a thrilling character. It is set to premiere in cinemas across the United Kingdom on Wednesday.
