Much-loved tearoom near York celebrates milestone birthday on Yorkshire Day
A tea shop close to York is marking 21 years in business on Yorkshire Day.
Doyly’s Tearoom in Bolton Percy, close to York, is celebrating its milestone birthday today, which coincides with Yorkshire Day.
The tearoom, which is owned and operated by a family, initially opened its doors on Yorkshire Day in 2003. Vicky Houseman, the founder, chose to set up the tearoom in the farmhouse as a way to expand the farm's offerings.
Vicky's two daughters, Ruth and Anne, are also involved in managing the tearoom. The tearoom's name was inspired by their grandmother, whose middle name is D'Oyly.
The tearoom has continued to grow and improve, and in 2019 the business expanded into the renovated cow shed on the farm.
"We are proud of our classic homemade baked goods made with recipes passed down through generations in Yorkshire," stated Ruth from Doyly's Tearoom.
The choices on the menu feature breakfast and lunch selections, along with afternoon tea and offerings such as freshly made scones and homemade cake.
The breakfast menu offers delicious options like the breakfast stack (priced at £12.50 with a vegetarian option available), eggs Benedict (£11.95), and pancakes starting at £7.75. At lunchtime, you’ll have a tough time deciding among jacket potatoes (beginning at £9.95), platters (starting at £14.95), sandwiches (beginning at £8.95), toasties (£9.95), and other hot dishes.
A locally cherished Yorkshire business began on Yorkshire Day 21 years ago, reflecting its strong ties to the community.
We are marking our 21st anniversary today on Yorkshire Day in beautiful weather and are excited for the next 21 years ahead!
The tea house is available for visitors on Wednesdays through Saturdays, with operating hours running from 10 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon.
