Report | Wolves 1-2 West Ham

Wolves vs West Ham

In a dramatic turn of events, Wolves were unsuccessful in claiming a victory against West Ham United at Molineux in the Premier League as Maximilian Kilman's header during injury time was dismissed after a VAR decision.

During the first half, Gary O'Neil's team was in charge and led the game. The Old Gold team had complete dominance and scored a penalty with Pablo Sarabia. In the second half, West Ham performed better and improved their game. They were able to score two more goals, both from penalties. Lucas Paqueta scored the first and James Ward-Prowse scored the second directly from a corner. This helped West Ham take the lead and win the game.

In the eighth minute of the added time, the game took a dramatic turn. Wolves believed that they had secured a draw when Kilman jumped up high in the box and headed towards the far corner of the net. However, the referee disallowed the goal after a VAR review due to an offside position. The decision was made because the goalkeeper's view was obstructed by a player.

O'Neil made a bold move in his attack by rearranging his front three, putting Rayan Ait-Nouri on the right, Tommy Doyle on the left, and Sarabia in the center. This gamble paid off as his team completely dominated the first half at Molineux.

By positioning himself on the right side, Ait-Nouri was able to utilize his speed to move towards the middle and take shots with his left foot - which is his preferred method. This resulted in the initial opportunity of the match, when he took a strong shot that unfortunately missed the mark and went over the crossbar defended by Lucasz Fabianski.

In the first half of the game, West Ham had just one opportunity to score, which was presented to Tomas Soucek due to a blunder from Nelson Semedo in defensive position for Wolves. Semedo foolishly attempted to bypass opposing players, resulting in him losing the ball to Jarrod Bowen who smartly passed it to his teammate in a perfect position. Unfortunately, Soucek couldn't manage to control the ball when he was in front of the goal just six yards out, which permitted Joao Gomes to make an incredible recovery and halt the danger.

After that opportunity, the wolves started to recover by showing their composure. Sarabia was able to make a save from Fabianski, who was discovered by Semedo inside the box. Moreover, Doyle tested the keeper's gloves successfully by making a clever stop down to his right.

Wolves attempted to score against Fabianski by shooting from a distance, with Doyle and Lemina hitting the goalkeeper's gloves. It took them over 30 minutes to finally succeed. The three attackers worked together to pass the ball to Ait-Nouri, who ran into the penalty box. He then dragged the ball back, which led to Emerson recklessly diving in and making contact with the winger's legs, resulting in a penalty being awarded to Wolves.

Sarabia took on the responsibility of taking the penalty kick from a distance of 12 yards. Despite Fabianski correctly diving towards the right side, he couldn't stop the ball as the Spaniard skillfully angled it to the right post, leaving the goalie with no chance.

In the football match, the goalkeeper of West Ham was more active than the other goalkeeper. He prevented Gomes' shot from far away and made a great save to stop Sarabia from scoring his second goal of the game. Sarabia hit a free-kick over the wall and towards the top corner, but the West Ham goalkeeper managed to grab the ball with both hands.

At the half-way point of the game, the score stands at Wolves one, West Ham zero.

Wolves played well in the first half of the game. However, things changed in the second half, and West Ham took control. Unfortunately, Wolves made some mistakes that caused them to lose the game.

Michail Antonio's entrance during halftime provided the Hammers with an essential figure they lacked during the initial 45 minutes. Being a Jamaican national, he pushed the Wolves' defense into tight spaces, giving his fellow players an opportunity to capitalize on the situation.

To begin with, Mohammed Kudus discovered an opening just beyond the area, yet after maneuvering around Sarabia, he was incapable of hitting the target and instead sent the ball high over the North Bank. Later on, Matt Doherty was forced to use his head twice to prevent Ward-Prowse from scoring, first from a free-kick and then from the resulting corner.

Around 60 minutes into the game, West Ham scored a point against Wolves when Emerson headed in at the far post. However, the referee cancelled the goal since there was a foul against Semedo during the setup. However, the West Ham team managed to score again in just a few moments and evened the score.

The defence of Wolves was disorganized as they gave the ball back to their opponents. As a result, they were penalized when a cross hit Kilman's arm. Then, the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors. Lucas Paqueta took the penalty and scored in the same corner as Sarabia did in the first half.

West Ham were the ones trying to secure a third goal during the match. Sa had to stay focused in order to prevent Ben Johnson's strike from going in. Additionally, Doherty stopped Kudus from scoring when he was attempting to put the ball in the unguarded net after successfully evading Wolves' goalkeeper.

However, with only five minutes remaining, the Hammers scored their second goal. Taking a corner kick directly, Ward-Prowse beautifully curved the ball through the congested Wolves penalty area. Despite Sa's best efforts, the ball sailed over his head and went inside the far post. The Wolves team was nowhere near the ball, leaving the Hammers a clear shot at the goal.

Nevertheless, there was a thrilling conclusion at Molineux as Wolves believed they had leveled the score in the eighth minute of the ten additional minutes. A second corner appeared to have caused the commotion when Kilman was located within the penalty area and the team captain skillfully placed the ball past Fabianski.

However, the goal was not counted by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) after an extended review. Referee Tony Harrington had to go to the screen and conclude that Tawanda Chirewa was positioned offside while standing in front of the goalkeeper. Consequently, the goal got disallowed, giving the visiting team all three points.
