“Set to depart” | Kamarai Swyer to leave West Ham for League Two Gillingham

West Ham

The young player from West Ham, Kamarai Simon-Swyer, is going to leave the team this summer. He has been allowed to practice with Gillingham, a League Two club.

The young winger from Redbridge joined the team when he was just eight years old. He has been impressing everyone at the West Ham academy since starting his two-year scholarship in 2019. Swyer played his first U18 Premier League South game at 16 years and eight months old, helping his team to a 2-1 victory over Swansea City. He also made his FA Youth Cup debut in a tough loss to Charlton Athletic in December, contributing five goals and two assists in 12 matches across all competitions.

Swyer inked his initial pro deal with the club when he turned 18, following his time as part of the U23's team. Similar to numerous teammates, Swyer played his debut and only match with the first team during the 3-0 victory against FCSB in the Europa Conference League group phase.

The player moved to Crawley Town on a temporary basis last summer following a pre-season trip to Australia with West Ham. During his time with the Reds, he netted one goal and assisted in two others in 11 games.

Even though Swyer didn't make a big impact at Crawley, he has been given an opportunity to prove himself at the same level with Gillingham, under the management of Mark Bonner. Bonner shared with KentOnline that the 21-year-old forward has been participating in training sessions with the team at the beginning of the pre-season, allowing them to assess his abilities more closely.

Bonner mentioned that they are considering giving him a chance to showcase his skills before making a decision. They are looking at various options for the attacking positions and are happy to see him play. This gives them something to think about moving forward.
