Dutch leader Virgil van Dijk stated that he will think about what comes next for his soccer career at both club and national team level in the upcoming weeks, following the upset of being knocked out in the semifinals of the European Championship on Wednesday.

Van Dijk announced that he will be taking some time to consider his future plans after spending nine years playing for the Netherlands national team and earning 75 caps. The 33-year-old still has one more season remaining on his contract with Liverpool.

"I am not sure at the moment. I will take some time this summer to consider my options for my club and international career. After that, I will make a decision. But for now, I need to focus on recovering from this defeat," Van Dijk said to the press following England's 2-1 victory over the Netherlands, securing their spot in the final against Spain on Sunday.

"After a year full of unexpected events, emotions run high as it comes to an end because we know it's all coming to a close," Van Dijk expressed.

In the second half, I felt confident that we would win. However, [Ollie] Watkins had too much room and he scored a great goal.

It is really painful that we let in that goal so close to the end of the game and now have nothing to show for our efforts. We all put in our best, gave it our all, and to have the goal come in at the last minute like that is really disappointing. Yes, it's just a tough situation.
