Vincent Kompany named new Bayern Munich head coach on three-year deal

Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany is now the head coach of Bayern Munich, as they've reached an agreement with Burnley for a compensation amounting to roughly £10m.

Bayern has secured Kompany's services for three years, in a surprising turn of events after their previous attempts to keep Thomas Tuchel failed. The team had also been turned down by Xabi Alonso, their former coach Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria's coach Ralf Rangnick.

Kompany is familiar with the Bundesliga because he used to play at Hamburg and is skilled in speaking German. However, hiring him as the new coach is a daring decision considering Burnley's descent from the Premier League. Despite winning the Championship with 101 scores in his first season at Turf Moor, he didn't have a successful Premier League experience, achieving only five victories.

Kompany expressed his deep admiration for his new role in the club, stating that it is a true privilege to work there. Bayern FC holds a special place in the field of soccer, with a long-standing reputation for excellence worldwide. He declared that as a coach, it's crucial to remain true to oneself, with a keen focus on creativity and an aggressive, daring approach to the game. He is eager to dive into his new position, to work hand-in-hand with his players, to create a formidable team based on strong foundations. He is confident that with the right approach, success is inevitable.

Christoph Freund, who is the sporting director of Bayern, expressed that Vincent Kompany is the perfect coach for their team because he aligns with their style of play and has a lot of experience. He believes that Kompany's squads are eager to keep possession of the ball, are passionate about playing assertive football, and strive for high intensity games. Freund also praised Kompany's ability to connect with the players and his situational awareness during matches. As a result, he is confident in Kompany's capability of leading their team to glory.

Burnley is currently searching for a new manager to help them make their way back into the Premier League. The club confirmed that Kompany will be leaving in a statement and mentioned that they had hoped to keep him on, but due to the circumstances, that was no longer possible. They acknowledged that Bayern Munich is a respected and attractive club, and that they understand Vincent's desire to pursue new opportunities. Burnley has already started the process of finding a new manager and will announce their decision at the appropriate time.
