The Killers give England fans euphoric night at O2

The Killers

The Killers finished their performance with Ronnie Vannucci Jr sporting an England jersey.

Fate was beckoning the football players of England in the semi-final of Euro 2024 - however, many fans holding tickets to attend The Killers concert at London's O2 arena on Wednesday believed they would have to skip the game.

Yet, the American rock group found a way to make the audience happy by broadcasting the exciting finish of the game on the large screen.

When the game ended and the crowd went wild, the band started playing their happy song Mr Brightside to make the celebration even better.

I've attended some awesome concerts in the past, so I had conflicting emotions when I discovered that my birthday gift was tickets to see the Killers at the O2 arena tonight, happening at the same time as the semi-final. - Tim Shipman, an author and journalist, shared this sentiment on X.

"After that, they performed and we were ecstatic as they sang my favorite song. It was pure perfection."

The England festivities were broadcasted on the large screen.

Sky journalist Martin Kimber expressed that the moment was very exciting for him. The Killers performed a live stream during the Euros just before England won, and their performance of "Mr Brightside" was especially thrilling.

Another supporter, Amelia, said: "It will always be a cherished memory for me that England made it to the final and The Killers performed 'Mr Brightside' right after."

The words of the song "I can't bear to watch, it's agonizing" often fit well with England matches, but the players changed the narrative in Wednesday's semi-final when substitute forward Ollie Watkins scored in the final minute of the game.

Brandon Flowers and guitarist Dave Keuning observed the conclusion of the game on the television.

Lead singer Brandon Flowers was seen at the forefront of the O2 stage, alongside the audience, witnessing the last moments of the performance. As the show came to an end, red and white streamers were shot out over the excited crowd.

The drummer, Ronnie Vannucci Jr, appeared again while sporting an England jersey.

"Tonight we performed for our fans in England!" the band shared, showcasing their excitement with a flag emoji featuring the St George's Cross.

The band's performance on Wednesday marked their fifth show out of six at the arena, concluding their tour in the UK.

Next, they will be heading to Spain to perform at a festival in Madrid on Saturday. Fortunately, they do not have a performance scheduled for Sunday, so they won't have to choose between watching the Euro 2024 final where England takes on Spain or their gig.

John Bishop Dodges Final Showdown

Following the semi-final, comedian John Bishop quickly declared that he would reschedule his performance in Wolverhampton on Sunday to avoid overlapping with the match, which starts at 8:00 PM BST.

"I won't be performing in the evening show. We'll be moving the show to the afternoon instead," he announced in a video shared on social media, as English players rejoiced on television in the background.

He said: "I understand that not everyone will be able to attend, so if you are unable to make it, we will provide a refund."

"We will change the time to Sunday afternoon for sure. I won't be able to do it at eight o'clock because I will be busy watching these guys."

His performance will start at 2:00 PM.

Additional big performances happening in England on Sunday night are Megan Thee Stallion performing at Co-op Live in Manchester, Doja Cat at the Wireless festival in Finsbury Park, London, and the South Korean boy band Stray Kids at the BST festival in Hyde Park.

Some performance venues that are currently not hosting events, such as the O2 and Manchester's AO, will be screening the final match for a large audience on their large screens.

Many people will be watching TV. The number of people watching the semi-final reached over 20 million.

Approximately 20.2 million viewers tuned in to ITV at 9:50 pm on Wednesday to witness Watkins score the winning goal and the game come to a close.

On the other hand, England's penalty kick match against Switzerland in the quarter-finals on Saturday reached a high point of 16.8 million viewers for five minutes.
